Another twist has arrived in the new stadium project of the Italian professional football clubs Inter Milan and A.C. Milan (Italy)‘The Cathedral’ – as a group have come forward offering to ‘save’ the current residence of the top-flight clubs – San Siro – a report claims.

‘sempremilan.com’ stated that the path towards getting the green light for the construction of the new stadium of Inter and Milan risks suffering a new setback and this time it is not because of the Council’s process. It is the leading venue management company ASM Global which wants to ‘save’ the San Siro.

On June 24th, 2019, A.C. Milan and Inter Milan announced their intention to build a new stadium to replace the San Siro. The new 60,000-capacity stadium, which would be constructed next to San Siro, is anticipated to cost US$800 million and was earlier expected to be ready for the 2022-2023 seasons.

In December 2021, the top-notch clubs announced that the celebrated design studio Populous’ project – ‘The Cathedral’ – has been selected for their new stadium.

‘The Cathedral’ is a celebration of the artistic and cultural heritage of Milan (Italy). Its design has been inspired by two of the most famous buildings in the City – the Duomo di Milano and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele – and will result in a unique stadium that will stand out from any other sporting arena in the world and will serve as the home venue of Italy’s top-rung clubs – A.C. Milan and Inter Milan.

The A.C. Milan is a professional football club in Milan, Italy, founded in 1899. The club has spent its entire history, with the exception of the 1980-1981 and 1982-1983 seasons, in the top flight of Italian football, known as Serie A since 1929-1930.

The Inter Milan is an Italian professional football club based in Milan, Lombardy (Italy). Inter is the only Italian side to have always competed in the top flight of Italian football since its debut in 1909.

Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, commonly known as the San Siro, is a football stadium in the San Siro district of Milan, Italy, which is the home of A.C. Milan and Inter Milan. It has a seating capacity of 80,018, making it one of the largest stadiums in Europe, and the largest in Italy.

‘sempremilan.com’ further stated that the Mayor of Milan – Giuseppe Sala – has received an interesting and concrete proposal on his desk regarding the preservation of the current San Siro in its pristine form. The proposal has come from ASM Global, an international company that organizes show events around the world and personally manages hundreds of stadiums worldwide.

Los Angeles (US)-based ASM Global is the world’s leading venue management company and producer of live event experiences. ASM Global is the preeminent management and content partner with over 350 venues worldwide. Operating and investing in the world’s most important stadiums, arenas, convention centers, and theaters requires unmatched dedication and the most profound expertise which the company boasts.

The entertainment company has offered to take care of Giuseppe Meazza and have sought an appointment with the Council of Milan so that a solution can be found which will translate to the fact that the current San Siro Stadium is not demolished.

A letter written to the Council and signed by ASM Global’s Italy CEO Giuseppe Rizzello explains the group’s proposal specifying that – unlike what emerged from the public debate – an interest on the part of third parties in taking over the current stadium exists.

The letter read, “Our company is ready to discuss with you (the Mayor), the search for a solution that will result in not demolishing the structure, to modernize it and at the same time the Council of Milan should not be directly involved in the management of the facility. With our proposal, strengthened by our specific expertise which we enjoy on a global level, we would, therefore, try to give a shot in the arm to this world famous venue (San Siro) which sits in the iconic City of Milan.”
