De Kuip redo plans renderings revealed

De Moderne Kuip (DMK) – the organization which has taken up the task of revamping the home ground of the Eredivisie club Feyenoord – the De Kuip in Rotterdam, Netherlands – has unveiled renderings vis-à-vis the redevelopment plans.

‘ad.nl’ stated that the renderings revealed that the entrance is sans fences and asphalt. It exudes a very cosy kind of ambience.

The Feyenoord is a Dutch professional association football club in Rotterdam (Netherlands), which plays in the Eredivisie, the top tier of Dutch football.

The 51,177-capacity Feyenoord Stadium – more commonly known by its nickname De Kuip – is a stadium in Rotterdam, Netherlands. It was completed in 1937. The name is derived from the Feijenoord district in Rotterdam, and from the club with the same name. The stadium’s original capacity was 64,000.

The DMK is a consortium of companies that have called for the modernization of De Kuip and is spearheaded by Erwin Eekelaar, Owner and the head honcho of the IT company Netsetup/Topaas Software, and Adriaan Geuze, Founder and Director of architecture firm West 8.

‘ad.nl’ further stated that the rendering further revealed the impressions from inside of the arena with an elevated passage around the stadium. Presently, the DMK is not focused on the third ring.

The DMK wants to set up a Data Campus in the stadium as it will help to “significantly improve the business case of the stadium”. The renderings further revealed the Coen Moulijnweg where the DMK wants to set up a ‘mobility hub’ and parking spaces for buses and cars. The renderings also reveal an athletics track.

The DMK vision encompasses a three-phase project where the import will initially be on making the venue facilities more futuristic before taking up the work of modernizing the facility within the current capacity. The third-phase remodeling work might see capacity expansion to 63,000.

The long-term objective is to create a new district of Rotterdam -entertainment districts being the flavor these days – a live-work-learn-engage concept with De Kuip as the anchor. As per DMK’s scheme of things, work in and around the stadium would be taken up on a priority basis.

The price tag of the development stands at circa €100m (£87.9m/$106.3m).

The modernization plans of De Kuip go back to the year 2014 when the DMK had presented its plans. However, the entire plan had to be put on hold in October 2022 due to the hostile global economic climate – a result of COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war.
