New vision for Kansas City Royal new ballpark Image: Mammoth Sports Construction (YouTube)

A design firm has released renderings of a new downtown baseball stadium for the Major League Baseball (MLB) team (US) with a unique concept.

‘KCTV 5’ stated that Mammoth Sports Construction unveiled a stadium design for the Kansas City Royals (US) that stretches over I-670 and would sit on the site of the old Kansas City Star printing pavilion.

Meriden, Kansas (US)-based Mammoth Sports Construction specializes in master planning, architecture, concrete, earth plan, and golf area construction. A modern master build firm, they consult, create and construct projects where passion and community collide.

The Kansas City Royals are an American professional baseball team based in Kansas City, Missouri (US). The Royals compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) Central division.

The 37,903-capacity Kauffman Stadium, often called ‘The K’, is a baseball stadium located in Kansas City, Missouri (US). It is home to the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball (MLB). It is part of the Truman Sports Complex together with the adjacent 76,416-capacity Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL).

The 3,000-capacity Truman Sports Complex is a sports and entertainment facility located in Kansas City, Missouri. It is home to two major sports venues: The Arrowhead Stadium, home of the National Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs and Kauffman Stadium, home of Major League Baseball’s Kansas City Royals.

‘KCTV 5’ further stated that the Kansas City Royals note that the firm’s renderings are not affiliated with the team.

The firm stated Mammoth Sports Construction Design Director David Folsom, a Kansas City native, helped create the concept, pulling designs from several areas:

  • Recycled copper from the KC Star building pays tribute to the site where it would stand;
  • Brick façade incorporates the style of the iconic West Bottoms stockyards;
  • Curved seating bowl preserves the present seating structure of Kauffman Stadium; and
  • The U-shaped section design takes inspiration from the 37,755-capacity Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts, and the 44,970-capacity Camden Yards.

Mammoth said in a statement, “Altogether, it’s a timeless ballpark design, woven into its City, with all the history of yesterday and the features of tomorrow. Craftsman quality. Anchored to place. A City like this one deserves no less.”

The Kansas City Royals have made known their intentions of constructing a $2 billion stadium and ballpark district for a future home.

The Royals have stated the club has narrowed its focus to a handful of locations for the downtown facility.

Passion Project

‘Mammoth Sports Construction on YouTube’ stated that for Mammoth Design Director David Folsom, creating a proposal for a new stadium for the Kansas City Royals was a passion project, dream come true and homage to baseball’s rich history all at once.

The Royals have initial plans in place to bring the hometown team into the heart of the City. One option is to build at the site of the old Kansas City Star printing pavilion, stretching part of ballpark over 670.

‘Mammoth Sports Construction on YouTube’ further stated that that’s where Folsom and Mammoth Sports Construction came in. A lifetime baseball fan and Kansas City native, Folsom poured unvarnished passion into the conception.
