Mexico recently submitted a formal bid to host the 2036 Summer Olympics at the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

‘Reuters’ stated that Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard and the President of the Mexican Olympic Committee, Maria Jose Alcala, met with the IOC President Thomas Bach in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The 2036 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXVI Olympiad, is a forthcoming international multisport event. The winning bid for the Host City might be announced between 2025 and 2029. Many Cities want to host the 2036 Summer Olympics, including London (UK), Doha (Qatar) and Ahmedabad (India).

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is a non-Governmental sports organization based in Lausanne, Switzerland. It is constituted in the form of an association under the Swiss Civil Code.

The Mexican Olympic Committee is the organization that represents Mexican athletes in the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Pan American Games and the Central American and Caribbean Games. It was created and formally recognized by the IOC in 1923. The organization is currently helmed by María José Alcalá.

The Pan American Games is a continental multisport event in the Americas featuring Summer sports, in which thousands of athletes participate in a variety of competitions. The competition is held among athletes from nations of the Americas every four years in the year before the Summer Olympic Games.

The Central American and Caribbean Games are a multisport regional championship event held quadrennial, typically in the middle year between Summer Olympics. The games are for countries in Central America, the Caribbean, Mexico, and the South American Caribbean countries of Colombia, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela.

The bid coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Olympic Committee.

‘Reuters’ further stated that the Mexican representatives said that most of the infrastructure required to host the multisport event was already in place, and a committee would be set up to support the bid.

Mexico, which hosted the 1968 Games in Mexico City as well as the two FIFA World Cups™ in 1970 and 1986, will be one of the joint hosts of the 2026 World Cup along with Canada and the United States.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup™ will be the 23rd FIFA World Cup™, the quadrennial international men’s soccer championship contested by the national teams of the member-associations of FIFA.
