Next step towards Inter Milans new stadium Image: Inter Milan & Populous

Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan FC are asking fans to share their views on the club’s planned move to a new stadium.

The club said it is strongly committed to the project of a new standalone stadium on the outskirts of Milan, in the municipality of Rozzano, and have launched a fan survey to gauge opinion on the scheme.

The project, which is being overseen by international architectural firm Populous, foresees the construction of a modern, sustainable and accessible venue surrounded by green spaces and equipped with refreshment areas, shops and services.

Inter said the project will be centred on the ideas and needs of the fans. With this in mind, a survey has been launched to garner the thoughts of the entire Nerazzurri community.

The collection of opinions began with a survey dedicated to traffic and will continue in the next few months with additional topics relating to Inter’s planned new home.

The new stadium would have a capacity of 70,000 and be designed to provide the best comfort and an exciting and immersive experience for all fans. It would also contribute to the development of the city and have excellent connections to the centre of Milan, integrating with existing infrastructure.

Outside the stadium, a sports ‘town’ and welcome areas for fans and everyone attending the district would be created; all of this would be accessible for 365 days a year and complement the surrounding park.

The new venue would replace Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, commonly known as the San Siro, which is the home of Serie A clubs A.C. Milan and Inter Milan. It has a seating capacity of 80,018, making it one of the largest stadiums in Europe, and the largest in Italy.

The two clubs had originally planned to build a new stadium together. The Cathedral was promoted as a celebration of the artistic and cultural heritage of Milan. Its design was inspired by two of the most famous buildings in the City – the Duomo di Milano and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele.

The plan was for the famed San Siro to be entirely demolished shortly after the 2026 Winter Olympics. The stadium is due to host the Olympic Opening Ceremony.

However, The Cathedral dreams were shattered with measures being taken by planning authorities to protect the famous ramps on the second tier of the San Siro Stadium from being knocked down.

According to Inter Milan, the design process for the new venue, which officially started with the acquisition of the exclusive rights to the area owned by Infrafin, is continuing through the work of Populous and the frequent meetings being held by the Club’s top management with the institutions and stakeholders involved.
