The French Cup Final will move away from Paris for the first time in its history when the event heads to Lille this year.

The final of the 2024 Coupe de France, France’s premier knockout football competition, will be played at the Decathlon ArenaStade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille, on Saturday May 25.

The Executive Committee of the French Football Federation has picked the Decathlon ArenaStade Pierre-Mauroy in Villeneuve-d’Ascq, near Lille (Nord/Hauts-de-France), to be the scene of the final of the 2023-2024 edition of the Coupe de France (Trophée Charles-Simon).

The Stade Pierre-Mauroy is a multi-use retractable roof venue with a seating capacity of 50,186 and is the home stadium of Lille OSC.

Initially named Grand Stade Lille Métropole, the stadium was renamed on 21 June 2013, just after the death of the former Mayor of Lille and former Prime Minister of France Pierre Mauroy (1928–2013).

The French Cup Final will be preceded by the 70th final of the Gambardella-Crédit Agricole Cup, organized as a curtain raiser.

The FFF further stated that this 106th final will thus be historic. Lille will become the first provincial city to host the final of the Coupe de France since the event kicked off in 1917-1918.

All the previous ones took place in Paris or its close suburbs (Colombes, Saint-Denis, Saint-Ouen). Because it is preparing for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Stade de France cannot host this final this year.

No sporting events or concerts have been allowed to take place at the Stade de France since the start of this year.

This has led to the Six Nations Championship (an annual international men’s rugby union competition between the teams of England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, and Wales), as well as the Coupe de France being hugely impacted.

The 2024 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad and commonly known as Paris 2024, is an upcoming international multisport event that is scheduled to take place from July 26th to August 11th, 2024 with Paris as its main Host City.

The event also covers 16 cities spread across Metropolitan France and one in Tahiti – an island within the French overseas country and overseas collectivity of French Polynesia – as a subsite. The Paralympic Games will be held in Paris from August 28th to September 8th.
