The National Stadium of Peru is all set to be redecorated as Lima will host the Pan American Games in 2027.

The upgrade work will see 13,000 new seats being installed following the construction of six meter high walls which will expand the grandstands and the box seats.

The main upgrade work will comprise erection of a metal structure surrounding the perimeter of the stadium, built with aluminum plates. A media zone will come up as well as eateries and restrooms will be built. The lighting system will be upgraded.

The 2027 Pan American Games, officially the XX Pan American Games, is an upcoming international multisport event governed by the Panam Sports Organization. It will be held for the second time in Peru’s capital, Lima. Barranquilla, Colombia, was initially announced as the host in August 2021.

Mexico City (Mexico)-based the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO), also known as the Panam Sports, is an international organization that supports the 41 National Olympic Committees of the Americas. It was founded on August 8th, 1948, and is the leading organization in the Olympic Movement of the Americas. The PASO’s main mission is to host the Pan American Games every four years. It works with the athletes, the National Olympic Committees and other organizations to ensure the success of the games.

The National Stadium of Peru, also known as the Estadio José Díaz or Estadio Nacional de Lima, is the main stadium of Peru. It’s located in Lima and has a capacity of 50,086 seats. The stadium opened on October 27th, 1952 and is the home of the Peruvian national football team.

A ‘LinkedIn Post By Architect Ruy Suárez’ stated that the National Stadium of Peru should undergo the following upgrades pronto to be able to hold the above sporting extravaganza in a hitch-free manner:

  • “A hybrid turf field should be installed, sand seeding, automated sprinkler irrigation system should be deployed, and a proper drainage system should be in place;”
  • “More bleachers should be installed in the current athletic track, something that the Argentine professional sports club River Plate has recently introduced in their home ground – the 84,567-capacity ‘El Monumental’ – which lends a dapper look;”
  • “Folding seats should be set up as they are portable and space efficient;”
  • “Dressing rooms, conference rooms and press rooms should be built as per the FIFA Manual guidelines;”
  • “LED lights should be installed and the acoustics of the venue should be upgraded;”
  • “The façade should have an inviting look;” and
  • “The security fences should be installed between the grandstand and the field.”

The ‘LinkedIn Post By Architect Ruy Suárez’ further stated, “If the above is implemented in the facility in toto, the question of upgrade and rejig work in the venue will not arise for the next 10 years.”
