Green light for Dinamo Bucharest stadium

Romanian Liga 1 football club Dinamo Bucharest could soon have a new multi-functional stadium to call its own after plans were approved by the national government.

The Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration (MDLPA) said on Facebook that the Government of Romania had given the green light to the ‘technical-economic indicators’ for the construction of the new arena for Dinamo Bucharest.

The new venue will have 25,059 seats, and it will be built to the highest UEFA Level 4 standards.

In addition to the stadium, there will be spaces for other sports including boxing (three rings), weightlifting, judo, wrestling, gymnastics, fitness and fencing.

The project will also include an exhibition space to host diverse events, a club museum and a helipad for quick access to the nearby Floreasca Hospital.

The surface area of the stadium is 66,716 square metres and the total value of the investment is estimated at $148 million. Building work is expected to take just over two years to complete.

The venue will be financed by MDLPA and by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, through Dinamo Bucharest Sports Club.

Supporters of Dinamo Bucharest have waited a long time for a new stadium.

The club is among the Romanian capital’s three major, traditional football clubs. Steua and Rapid already have their new venues.

As part of the City’s training base program, each of the clubs was to receive a new stadium ahead of Euro 2020.

Back in 2016, Dinamo were even the first ones to showcase their stadium design. And yet they are the only club not to currently boast a new stadium.

It has been a long-running saga. Back in December 2021 the club finally said that an agreement had been reached over land ownership for its new stadium and it looks like it will now finally go ahead.

Initially, when the original scheme for the facility was presented (back then a venue accommodating 30,000 spectators was to be built in place of Stadionul Stefan Cel Mare), the construction timing was expected to be 2017-2019. Then in 2018, the dates were changed to 2019-2021 and again to 2021-2023.

Dinamo currently plays at the 15,000 capacity Stadionul Dinamo.
