The sod-cutting ceremony of the second phase of the Cidade Deportiva Afouteza (a large, multifunctional sports complex) in Mos (a Municipality located in the Galicia region of Spain) was held recently.

‘CELTA’ stated that the above event which was the second phase of the GS360 project will now be renamed the Celta360. The event marked the beginning of a new chapter in the club’s history: The start of a more innovative and inclusive Sports City aiming to set a global benchmark which will also include a mini-stadium.

The GS-360 encompasses different aspects: The research laboratories, culture, leisure, sports tourism, sports medicine, facilities for the practice of all sports, etc.

The Cidade Deportiva Afouteza, also known as the Celta360, is a large, multifunctional sports complex developed by the LaLiga team RC Celta (Spain). It’s designed to be a high-performance training environment for the young athletes and will also include the research labs, the cultural and leisure spaces and facilities for sports medicine and tourism. The complex aims to strengthen the RC Celta’s Youth Academy – ‘A Canteira’ (a renowned football development program for the young players recognized as one of the best in Europe) – and position the club as a leader in both academic and sport training.

The Real Club Celta de Vigo, commonly known as the Celta Vigo or RC Celta, is a Spanish professional football club based in Vigo, Galicia, Spain, that competes in the LaLiga, the top tier of Spanish football.

The Balaídos Stadium, known as the Estadio Abanca Balaídos for sponsorship reasons, is an all-seater stadium located in Vigo, Spain. It is owned by the Vigo City Council and is the home of the LaLiga club RC Celta. The stadium opened in 1928 and currently accommodates 24,870 spectators.

‘CELTA’ further stated that the elite athletes, the various officials, the sponsors involved in the project, and the club staff graced the event along with more than 200 full-of-fervor Celta fans.

Several dignitaries present on the occasion reminisced the early days of the club founded in 1923 and several elite athletes like Rodrigo Corrales (handball player), Teresa Portela (canoeist), María Araujo (basketball player) stated that Celta360 will best mirror the values and a sense of commitment of the top-flight club. They also observed that the young fans in the stands, through determination and hard work, can show their prowess on the pitch too – the journey from the stands to the pitch. And the above sports complex will help them to meet this goal.

Maintained Marián Mouriño Terrazo, RC Celta President, “We take immense pride in getting off the ground the second phase of Celta360. We are very excited about the same and this project means a lot for the club and for Galician sport (Galicia is a region in Northwestern Spain). Celta360 will help to strengthen the connection with the community.”

She also underscored that Celta360 holds great significance for the club and stated that the sports complex project took off only due to the support of the workers, the sponsors, the community of Montes de Pereiras, and the Celta fanbase.

Noted Nidia Arévalo, Mayoress of Mos, “This project will be handed down as a legacy to our children and grandchildren.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Alfonso Rueda, President, Xunta de Galicia (the collective decision-making body of the Government of the Autonomous Community of Galicia), termed the project as “the future of RC Celta and for sport in Galicia. It transcends soccer.”

The Celta360 envisions the creation of a multifunctional complex that will allow the young athletes to complete their development in a high-performance environment. The complex will include a mini-stadium, five new training pitches for Celta’s youth and cadet teams and will also offer vocational programs in health and sports-related fields. A hotel will also come up as part of the project.
