The Hoover Metropolitan Stadium has undergone a comprehensive renovation and now features a vibrant “Hoover Blue” rooftop.

Lumiflon USA said this bold visual update not only revitalizes the iconic sports venue’s appearance but also reflects the civic identity of the City of Hoover.

The Hoover Met baseball stadium is part of the Hoover Metropolitan Complex, a multipurpose sports and event venue spanning over 60 acres in the suburb of Birmingham, Alabama.

The stadium seats approximately 10,800 spectators for baseball and can accommodate up to 16,000 when the patio, banquet, and grassy side areas are used. The stadium also houses 12 suites and state-of-the-art dressing and training rooms.

The renovations to the venue were undertaken to preserve and protect the existing roof structure.

The work addressed aging and deteriorating surfaces that showed signs of chalking and delamination, which had compromised both aesthetics and performance of the structure.

The primary goals were to restore the structure, enhance its durability and improve its overall appearance.

The project, managed by general contractors Brasfield & Gorrie, involved structural repairs, surface preparation, priming and the application of a high-performance industrial coating system.

Industrial Coatings Group, Inc. of Jemison, Alabama served as the coating installer, performing surface preparation and applying one coat of Induron E-Bond 100% solids epoxy primer at a thickness of 1-2mm.

The primer is designed to penetrate and stabilize compromised substrates, providing a solid foundation for the topcoat system.

For the finish coat, two full coats of Induron Perma-Gloss Fluorourethane were applied in the custom “Hoover Blue” color.

This high-performance topcoat, formulated with Lumiflon fluoropolymer resin, provides superior UV and weather resistance, long-term gloss and color retention, and protection against harsh outdoor environments.

The renovation not only significantly improved the integrity and appearance of the stadium’s roof but also enhanced its visual presence—transforming the Hoover Met into a striking Alabama landmark.

The project was recently recognized with the ABC Alabama Excellence in Construction Eagle Award.

The City of Hoover said in a statement, “A project of this magnitude, with such an accelerated timeframe and a very hard deadline at the end, requires an incredible and highly talented design and construction management team. The team members were provided an opportunity to shine with this project. And shine they did!”
