Queensland Government is inviting proposals for the development of a Gabba Entertainment Precinct Image: Queensland Government

The Crisafulli Government’s (the Government of Queensland led by David Crisafulli) bold vision to transform Brisbane’s (Australia) iconic Gabba Stadium and the neighboring former GoPrint site (a location that has been demolished and is being redeveloped into a new housing and entertainment precinct) is gaining momentum with procurement now underway to deliver this legacy development for 2032 and beyond.

‘statements.qld.gov.au’ stated that a Request for Expression of Interest and Information Memorandum was released recently for the development of the Gabba Entertainment Precinct marking a major milestone in the 2032 Olympic and Paralympics Games legacy and urban transformation.

The 42,000-capacity Brisbane Cricket Ground, commonly known as the Gabba, is a major sports stadium in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, Australia. The nickname Gabba derives from the suburb of Woolloongabba in which it is located.

An Expression of Interest (EOI) is a preliminary statement of a party’s intent to participate in a project while an Information Memorandum (IM) is a comprehensive document containing detailed information about the project or company which is provided to the potential parties after they have submitted an EOI.

The 2032 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXV Olympiad and also known as Brisbane 2032 or Bris2032, is an upcoming international multisport event scheduled to take place from July 23rd-August 8th, 2032 with Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, as the main Host City.

‘statements.qld.gov.au’ further stated that the above signals the start of the competitive market process and invites the private sector to submit proposals for the delivery of a globally recognized destination for entertainment, sport and new housing for the Queenslanders.

After 1,200 days of Labor Games chaos the Crisafulli Government is getting on with the job of delivering for 2032 and beyond and ensuring the Games deliver a generational infrastructure legacy across Queensland.

Anchored by a new indoor arena – delivering more housing, retail and public spaces and supported by the integrated transport infrastructure – the precinct will redefine how Brisbane hosts the major events, the concerts and the sporting fixtures while unlocking new housing and investment opportunities in one of the City’s most connected locations.

This transformative project will position Woolloongabba as a dynamic cultural, residential and community epicenter ensuring its golden legacy lives on well beyond the 2032 Games.

The Request for Expression of Interest (EOI) for the Gabba Entertainment Precinct will remain open until January 12th, 2026.

Aligned with the Crisafulli Government’s commitment to delivering lasting infrastructure and strengthening communities the precinct will unlock:

  • Tourism opportunities through major events, sports and experiences;
  • New investment attraction in hospitality, retail and residential development;
  • Increased housing and urban activation in one of Australia’s fastest growing Cities;
  • A showcase for innovation and design in Brisbane’s inner South; and
  • Access and connectivity to the Cross River Rail line minutes from the Central Business District (CBD).

The Deputy Premier of Queensland Jarrod Bleijie said the commencement of the procurement process for the Gabba Entertainment Precinct was a major milestone – “The Labor (Australian Labor Party) announced a business case for a new arena in Brisbane over seven years ago at a monumental cost to the taxpayer of $2.5 billion and then did nothing. Not only was a sod never turned after seven years but the Labor also hid a $500 million blowout on their own costings from the Queenslanders before the election. With the opening of procurement for the new arena the Crisafulli Government has achieved more in the last six months since the 2032 Delivery Plan than the Labor did in over seven years.”

Concluded Bleijie, “The Crisafulli Government is partnering with the private sector to deliver a world-class mixed-use precinct to deliver more homes for the Queenslanders and a state-of-the-art new 17,000 seat indoor arena. Queensland is well and truly open for business and the Crisafulli Government looks forward to working in partnership with the private sector to deliver the Gabba Entertainment Precinct.”
