First visuals of upgraded Napoli stadium revealed Image: Municipality of Naples

First images have been released of how a redeveloped Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples, Italy will look.

The renderings were released after City of Naples officials and Italian Football Federation (FIGC) delegates met to review the progress of the Maradona Stadium redevelopment project ahead of Euro 2032.

The goal of the technical meeting was for the final presentation of details focusing on the modernization of the Fuorigrotta stadium, home of SSC Napoli.

The Società Sportiva Calcio Napoli, also known as SSC Napoli, is an Italian professional football club based in the City of Naples that plays in Serie A, the top-flight of Italian football.

The 54,726-capacity Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, formerly known as the San Paolo Stadium, is a stadium in the Western Fuorigrotta suburb of Naples, Italy.

From the Sala Giunta of Palazzo San Giacomo, Councilor for Infrastructure, Edoardo Cosenza, provided the FIGC representatives, who were connected remotely, with an update on the Maradona stadium construction work.

He said, “We presented the progress of the project for the new Maradona, specifically, the design of the entire interior layout, with the new first tier adjacent to the pitch.

“The project is being entirely developed in BIM mode, which allows for great precision and flexibility.

“The images show the current, non-symmetrical position of the pitch and the new, centered position, with the stands closely spaced: structural cross-sections and views that perfectly reflect the future sightlines resulting from the project. All seats meet UEFA visibility requirements.”

Plans shown in the visuals include a new extended roof covering more of the seating bowl. Sustainable design elements are part of the concept, such as rainwater reuse and larger hospitality and service areas.

The revamped hospitality offerings will include sky boxes, VIP seating and improved bars and restaurants.

The project will not only be aesthetic, but also structural, designed to restore a modern arena to the Azzurri fans and the citizens of Naples.

The Maradona stadium redevelopment is part of a broader urban revitalization plan aimed at consolidating the city’s role as a capital of sport and tourism in preparation for the 2032 challenge.
