Real Club Deportivo combines club museum and hospitality venue in a single concept Image: Populous

The Spanish association football club RC Deportivo La Coruña has opened its unique new Dépor Museo & Tour to the public in A Coruña (City and Municipality in Galicia, Spain).

Galicia is the autonomous community of Spain.

‘POPULOUS’ stated that designed by the architecture firm Populous the project introduces a unique concept that combines an interactive club museum and a matchday hospitality venue.

The Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña, commonly known as the Deportivo La Coruña, is a Spanish professional football club based in the City of A Coruña, Galicia (Spain) that competes in the Segunda División, the second tier of the Spanish football league system.

The 32,490-capacity Estadio Municipal de Riazor, also referred to as the Estadio Abanca-Riazor for sponsorship reasons, is an all-seater stadium in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain, which is the home stadium of the Deportivo de La Coruña.

Populous is a global architectural and design practice with regional headquarters in Kansas City (US), London (UK) and Brisbane (Australia) specializing in the sports facilities, the arenas and the convention centers as well as in the planning and design of the major special events.

‘POPULOUS’ further stated that as a museum it offers a comprehensive journey through the identity of RC Deportivo across three major thematic areas: Its sporting history and greatest achievements, its social, cultural and Galician impact and its institutional evolution alongside the emotional legacy of Deportivo and its fanbase.

On matchdays the space transforms into a unique hospitality area for the fans offering the experiences tailored to the different audiences. These range from the VIP areas and the curated dining concepts to the personalized services, and the immersive technological experiences. Drawing on the Galician culture and the club’s own identity the venue operates as an integrated ecosystem connecting Deportivo with the fans and the partners alike. More than an exhibition space the Dépor Museo & Tour has been conceived as a gathering place for the entire Deportivo community, accessible and intergenerational, conveying the emotion, the heritage and the values that have defined the Club for more than a century.

Said Jorge Betancor, Managing Director, Populous Espana, “We are proud to collaborate with Deportivo on this new milestone and to help create a unique space that seamlessly integrates the museum and the hospitality functions. The Dépor Museo & Tour is designed to preserve and strengthen the identity and legacy while creating an experience that connects the past, the present and the future of this great football club. Combining the local expertise of our Spanish team with Populous’ international experience we conducted an in-depth analysis of the club’s historical and cultural heritage and its wider context ensuring that every space reflects the spirit of Deportivo in an authentic yet contemporary way.”

Populous – which also designed the Dépor Training Center – the club’s new training complex unveiled in 2025 – developed the project in line with the club’s ambition to turn the museum into a new landmark for A Coruña and Galicia.
