Concrete pillars perched on a stand to the side of the East Curve have collapsed at the Weserstadion in Bremen, Germany.

‘sky sport’ stated that the above was confirmed by the Bundesliga club Werder Bremen.

The 42,100-seat Weserstadion is a football stadium in Bremen, Germany. The Weserstadion is scenically situated on the North Bank of the Weser River and is surrounded by lush green parks. It is the home stadium of the German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen.

The SV Werder Bremen, commonly known as Werder Bremen, Werder or simply Bremen, is a German professional sports club based in Bremen (Germany). Founded on February 4th, 1899, Werder are best known for their professional association football team who compete in the Bundesliga, the first tier of the German football league system.

‘sky sport’ further stated that initially there was no information on the cause behind the damage. The Werder Bremen has since issued a statement on its Website which reads, “An incident occurred on the afternoon of July 8th while the modernization of the Weserstadion was on. The renovation work going on in the VIP space of the Weserstadion required the removal of window panes. During this exercise a load-bearing column got damaged accidentally. This resulted in a partial collapse of the upper tier of Block 53. No one has been injured. There is no risk of collapse for the remaining sections of the stands.”

Informed Hans-Jörg Otto, Managing Director (MD), Bremer Weserstadion GmbH, “We are currently analyzing the situation and examining the extent of damage caused and we hope to be able to repair the stands as soon as possible.”
