Raków Częstochowa Elanex site spiffy stadium design process

Częstochowa (city in Poland) will begin the design process for a football stadium on the site of the former Elanex site for the professional Polish football club Raków Częstochowa.

Stadium Design

Before work on the stadium design starts it will have to be preceded by dialog with the design entities with relevant experience in sports facility design. The facility’s designer will be selected from among them based on the dialog outcome.

Preferred Location

‘czestochowa.pl’ stated that the Elanex site is the professional Polish football club Raków Częstochowa preferred location made possible following the city’s purchase of land and the recent preliminary approval from the heritage conservator.

Alternative Sites

The site of the former Elanex textile factory in Częstochowa (Poland) was proposed as a potential location to build a brand-new, modern 15,000-capacity stadium for the Raków Częstochowa. However, the plans stalled after the heritage protection rules restricted development on the historic property leading the officials to explore alternative sites.

The Raków Częstochowa is a Polish professional football club based in Częstochowa that competes in the Ekstraklasa, the top tier of Poland’s national football league system.

The 5,500-seat Raków Municipal Stadium is a football stadium in Częstochowa, Poland. It is the home ground of the Raków Częstochowa football club.

State-of-the-art Venue

The Acting Mayor of Częstochowa Zdzisław Wolski said that it is not only the football lovers who want a new football stadium but even a large section of the city residents believe that the stature of the city would go up if a state-of-the-art venue comes up.

Elanex Site

‘czestochowa.pl’ further stated that the Elanex site was recommended by the city in its preliminary feasibility study. The Raków Częstochowa representatives also considered this location optimal for a multifunctional project. Therefore, the city worked fingers to the bone to acquire the land through a bailiff’s auction which was ultimately successful thus providing an opportunity to revitalize the entire area including building an avant-garde football stadium.

Design Process

Although the city’s appeal regarding the extended scope of the conservation protection for the ‘Elanex’ site in 2025 was not taken into account at the Ministerial level but subsequent consultations and recent correspondence with the Provincial Conservator of Monuments finally opened up the possibility of carrying out a design process for the new stadium.

Heritage First

Informed Łukasz Pabiś, Deputy Mayor of Częstochowa, “We assured the conservation services that apart from the construction of the stadium which is our topmost priority the second priority is to restore the pristine historical sheen of this place – in the greater interests of the city and its residents.”

Functional Facility

The Raków Częstochowa President Wojciech Cygan said that the club wants to be a partner with the city in the process of drawing out the project plan and contribute to the creation of a functional facility for the city’s residents, the fans and the club.

‘Complex Area’

Observed Łukasz Kot, Deputy Mayor, Częstochowa, “The Elanex site is a complex area as it is home to historic monuments that must be preserved. However, we are committed to completing the Przędzalnia Przyszłości project and the venue project as quickly as possible and work on both projects will be carried out parallelly. We want to enter into binding agreements with the conservation authorities. We intend to work through the sweat of our brows in tandem with the club to bring to fruition the stadium project. We will also actively seek the external financing necessary to carry out the projects’ work.”

The Przędzalnia Przyszłości (Spinning Mill of the Future) project is a major urban revitalization initiative in Częstochowa, Poland. It aims to transform the eight-hectare historic post-industrial site of the former ‘Elanex’ flax spinning mill into a modern, mixed-use downtown district via a public-private partnership (PPP).

Design Funds

PLN 5.25 million will be earmarked for the stadium’s design exercise and is to be used between 2026 and 2028. The funds, of course, are needed to chalk out the design and, prior to that, conduct the necessary competitive dialog to select a designer.

The design, along with all the necessary approvals and permits (including the conservation permits) for the Elanex site, will allow for the commissioning and commencement of the construction work.

Financial Engineering

At the same time, the city, together with its partners, will work on the financial engineering of the project which – in terms of the overall revitalization of the former ‘Elanex’ spinning mill complex including the restoration of the historically valuable buildings – will also be based on the public-private partnership (PPP) formula.
