Alan Burrows has been appointed as the Chief Executive at Aberdeen F.C. (Scotland, UK) – the Scottish Premiership club – after announcing he was leaving the same position at Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell F.C.

‘sky sports’ stated that Burrows confirmed his Fir Park (Motherwell F.C. home ground) departure last month, having been in the role since 2014, and will take up the role at Pittodrie Stadium (Aberdeen F.C. home ground) on February 27th.

The Aberdeen Football Club is a Scottish professional football club based in Aberdeen, Scotland. They compete in the Scottish Premiership and have never been relegated from the top division of the Scottish football league system since they were elected to the top flight in 1905. Aberdeen has won four Scottish league titles, seven Scottish Cups and six Scottish League Cups. They are also the only Scottish team to have won two European trophies, having won the European Cup Winners’ Cup and the European Super Cup in 1983.

The 22,199-capacity Pittodrie Stadium, commonly referred to as Pittodrie, is an all-seater stadium in Aberdeen, Scotland (UK). Used primarily for football, it has been the home ground of the Scottish Professional Football League club Aberdeen F.C. since they were formed in 1903.

The Motherwell Football Club is a Scottish professional football club based in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, Scotland (UK) which plays in the Scottish Premiership. Motherwell has not dropped out of the top-flight of Scottish football since 1985, and has lifted one trophy in that time – the Scottish Cup in 1991.

The 13,742-capacity Fir Park Stadium is a football stadium situated in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, Scotland (UK). The stadium plays host to the home matches of Scottish Premiership club Motherwell F.C.

‘sky sports’ further stated that Burrows worked at Motherwell for six years before being promoted to Chief Executive.

He observed, “There is so much potential at this club and so many exciting projects already well underway. There is much to do, on and off the pitch, and I am excited and eager to work with the many talented staff who I know are in place at Pittodrie. I was fortunate enough to have a number of clubs make contact with me, however, I was most intrigued by the Aberdeen opportunity. I want to place on record my sincere thanks to all my friends and colleagues at Motherwell for 15 memorable years. I wish the club, the Directors, the staff, the players, and the supporters, who were very good to me, every success in the future.”

Aberdeen sacked Manager Jim Goodwin last month with the club sitting seventh in the Scottish Premiership.

‘The Dons’ Chairman Dave Cormack put in, “Alan has all the experience and qualities you’d look for in a Chief Executive. He’s got his finger firmly on the pulse of the Scottish game, is well-respected in footballing circles and is fully aligned with the strategy and vision we have to drive Aberdeen F.C. forward. In taking over as the Chairman, the intention was always to appoint a Chief Executive. However, within three months, the COVID pandemic hit and I felt the need to lead the club through the significant financial challenges that came up.”

Added Cormack, “It was also critical that we were patient and found the right individual who knows and understands both football and business. When Alan announced his intention to step down at Motherwell F.C. we began a dialog which, I’m delighted to say, has led to his appointment.”
