Timeline revealed for Artemio Franchi in Florence Image: ACF Fiorentina

The timeline for carrying out the redevelopment work of the Serie A team ACF Fiorentina home ground – the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence, Italy – could be extended until 2028.

‘Municipality of Florence’ stated that the above move would facilitate the top-flight to remain at their residence for the entire duration of the project.

The ACF Fiorentina, commonly referred to as Fiorentina, is an Italian professional football club based in Florence, Tuscany, Italy. The original team was founded by a merger in August 1926, while the current club was refounded in August 2002 following bankruptcy.

The 43,147-capacity Artemio Franchi Stadium is a football stadium in Florence, Italy. It is currently the home of ACF Fiorentina. The old nickname of the stadium was ‘Comunale’. When it was first constructed, it was known as the Stadio Giovanni Berta, after the Florentine fascist Giovanni Berta.

‘Municipality of Florence’ further stated that the above facility will come armed with a roof and new grandstands that will enable the fans to stay close to the pitch action.

Though the Mayor of Florence Dario Nardella had announced in January that Fiorentina will be playing at the Artemio Franchi Stadium next season at a reduced capacity of 22,000 while the stadium undergoes rejig work, however, the Florence Senator Paolo Marcheschi recently stated that the entire redecoration work of the stadium could be extended to 2028 and if this happens the top-notch club does not have to move to a temporary facility.

A revised financial programing, which still needs to be ratified, would make the new timeline possible.

The revamp project would see the restoration, repair and structural reinforcement of the existing structures. The foundation work of the four mega columns to support the roof will be carried out. A new space is also being planned for the radio-television journalists.
