The leading venue management company ASM Global and Albany County (New York, US) officials have announced that the ASM Global-managed MVP Arena in Albany ended 2022 with a net operating profit of $2,321,245, which breaks the record since the MVP Arena opened in 1990.

‘ASM Global’ stated that previously, the record for net operating profits retained by the Albany County was in 2000 with a profit of $2,188,761. There were 106 events presented in 2022, and 2022 attendance was 434,277.

Los Angeles (US)-based ASM Global is the world’s leading producer of entertainment experiences. It is the global leader in venue and event strategy and management – delivering locally tailored solutions and cutting-edge technologies to achieve maximum results for venue owners. The company’s elite venue network spans five continents, with a portfolio of more than 350 of the world’s most prestigious arenas, stadiums, convention and exhibition centers, and performing arts venues.

The MVP Arena is an indoor arena located in Albany, New York, US. It is configurable and can accommodate from 6,000 to 17,500 people, with a maximum seating capacity of 15,500 for sporting events.

‘ASM Global’ further stated that live events marked a triumphant return in 2022. Concerts included the American singer-songwriter John Mayer, the American rock band Journey, the American nu metal band Korn, the contemporary Christian and Christian rock band Casting Crowns, the American heavy metal band Slipknot, the English musician Roger Waters, the American singer-songwriter Cody Johnson, the American rock band My Chemical Romance, the American country music singer Luke Combs, the American rock band Greta Van Fleet, the English heavy metal band Judas Priest, the rock n’ roll show Trinity of Terror, and the American rock band Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Family favorites touring ice shows Disney On Ice and the American exhibition basketball team Harlem Globetrotters were presented both early in the year and then again in December 2022. The high-octane mix of indoor Motocross racing and Freestyle MX Arenacross and the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) all returned in 2022 as well as World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) with both SmackDown and Raw. For the first time ever, the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) made their Albany debut to the delight of professional wrestling fans. Comedy giants Sebastian Maniscalco and Katt Williams each brought their style of comedy during their solo performances at the MVP Arena.

Said Daniel P. McCoy, Albany County Executive, “The pandemic may have knocked us down, but the MVP Arena has come back stronger than ever. The proof is in the numbers as we set a new record for net operating profits since the American singer Frank Sinatra played the first show in 1990 and after welcoming some of the biggest names in music, comedy and more to Downtown Albany this year. Additionally, we’ve now invested $43 million into arena enhancements over the last four years alone with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) March Madness and other great events scheduled for 2023. In the words of the great Frank Sinatra: “The best is yet to come”.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men’s basketball tournament, branded as NCAA March Madness and commonly called March Madness, is a single-elimination tournament played each Spring in the United States, currently featuring 68 college basketball teams from the Division I level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), to determine the national championship. The men’s and women’s basketball championship tournaments begin each March and consist of fields of 64 (for the women’s) and 68 (for the men’s) teams.

Stated Bob Belber, MVP Arena General Manager, “Our patrons, corporate partners/advertisers and suite holders are the key to this facility’s success. The 2022 schedule of events at the MVP Arena was excellent, and the residents in Upstate New York, Western Vermont and Massachusetts attended our events heavily once the COVID-19 restrictions were lifted. People were happy to get out and attend their favorite concerts, family shows and sporting events.”

The annual economic impact derived within the capital region from events that are presented each year at the MVP Arena is estimated to be over $100 million.

Added Doug Thornton, ASM Global Executive Vice-President, “ASM Global’s worldwide expertise combined with an unparalleled ability to also think locally is on full display at the MVP Arena. Dramatically elevating the customer experience at venues and simultaneously offering new cutting-edge techniques to increase revenues continues to be of prime importance for ASM Global. That has certainly proven quite successful in Albany.”

Already scheduled for 2023 are American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen and the American rock band E Street Band (musician Bruce Springsteen’s primary backing band since 1972), the American country music band Old Dominion, For King & Country (Christian pop duo – Australian brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone), American singer-songwriters Zach Bryan, and Thomas Rhett with Cole Swindell. For sports fans, NCAA DI Men’s Basketball 1st and 2nd Rounds will bounce into Albany on March 17th and March 19th. Siena Saints men’s basketball and the Albany FireWolves (professional box lacrosse team) will continue their 2022-2023 seasons, and the indoor American football team Albany Empire will return in April.
