ASM Global, the world’s largest producer of entertainment experiences, and the Finnish privately-owned development company Suvilahden Areena Oy have announced an unprecedented alliance to propose serving as the lead in the future reimagination of Helsinki’s (Finland) sprawling iconic and historic Helsinki’s Hanasaari Power Plant built in 1909.

‘ASM Global’ stated that the duo’s aim is to preserve as much of the legendary landmark building while integrating the local culture and environment in combination with a state-of-the-art arena and festival area within the development.

Los Angeles (US)-based ASM Global is the world’s leading producer of entertainment experiences. It is the global leader in venue and event strategy and management – delivering locally tailored solutions and cutting-edge technologies to achieve maximum results for venue owners. The company’s elite venue network spans five continents, with a portfolio of more than 350 of the world’s most prestigious arenas, stadiums, performing arts venues, and convention and exhibition centers.

The Suvilahden Areena Oy is a Finnish privately-owned development company that has applied for a development reservation from the City of Helsinki in March 2023 in order to investigate the feasibility of an event and multipurpose arena intended for culture and events in the Hanasaari power plant area located in Suvilahti, Helsinki (Finland).

‘ASM Global’ further stated that the ASM Global will anchor the music and live-entertainment venue while exploring incorporating sports programing on a major scale.

Said Chris Bray, ASM Global Europe President, “The Hanasaaren voimala (coal-fired cogeneration power plant) is a major next step for the ASM Global in Finland. We already have a strong presence in Scandinavia and are now building on our recent expansion into Helsinki, which includes Kulttuuritalo (building in Helsinki housing a concert hall, an office building and a lecture-theater block). We believe that with our unrivaled global network, we will bring the world’s most sought-after concerts and artistes to fans in Helsinki. The Hanasaaren voimala has an exceptional location. The possibility of building a new arena and entertainment hub by the sea with a festival area and an urban culture project is an exciting prospect.”

Added Timo Nieminen, Suvilahden Areena Oy Chief Executive Officer (CEO), “Cooperation with the ASM Global strengthens the credibility of our project. We get to use ASM Global’s experience and best practices regarding venue management. Basing the design on strong experience and insights is a prerequisite for a financially feasible project. We are now just waiting for the development reservation to be granted by the City. We aim to run a planning process working with the key players in the area, the environs and the City of Helsinki to create a new type of urban culture hub.”

ASM Global’s Stockholm Live operates seven venues in Finland’s capital City Helsinki alone, and in May it announced an operation agreement with the Helsinki Cultural Centre.
