The LaLiga team Valencia CF announced on January 5th that it has reached an agreement with the Spain-based international construction company FCC Construcción to complete the construction of its partially built new home ground Nou Mestalla in Valencia, Spain, which has been hanging fire for the last 16 years.

‘footboom1.com’ stated that the construction work is all set to resume on January 10th. Work on the above venue is expected to be completed by July 2027 paving the way for the top-flight to play in their new home in the 2027-2028 seasons.

January 10th, 2025 was the deadline set by the Valencia City Council to the club when it gave the nod to resume work on the under-construction facility a few months back.

The Valencia CF is a Spanish professional football club based in Valencia, Spain, which currently plays in the LaLiga, the top flight of the Spanish football league system. Valencia was founded in 1919 and has played its home games at the 49,430-seat Mestalla since its opening.

The Mestalla Stadium is a football stadium in Valencia, Spain. The stadium is the home of the Valencia CF and has a capacity to hold 49,430 spectators making it the eighth-largest stadium in Spain and the largest in the Valencian community.

The 61,500-capacity Nou Mestalla is a partially built football stadium in Valencia, Spain, intended as a replacement for Valencia’s current stadium, the Mestalla. The basic concrete structure of the stadium was built between August 2007 and February 2009 but work was then halted citing financial reasons.

‘footboom1.com’ further stated that the Valencia CF sent out a statement which read, “The Valencia CF has signed a contract with the FCC Construcción which will be the company responsible for completing the stalled works of the new stadium with construction set to resume on January 10th. The FCC Construcción is a leading company in the design and construction of national and international infrastructures boasting huge experience in executing large sports facilities projects such as the construction of the 70,692-capacity Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid, Spain, the 40,000-capacity RCDE Stadium in Barcelona, Spain, and the renovation of the 78,297-capacity Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain, among others.”

The price tag to complete the remaining work of the Nou Mestalla stands at 139.7 million euros. As per a document, the total expenses for the new stadium’s construction has been pegged at 202.7 million euros and after adding the general expenses and the industrial profits the same would reach 241.2 million euros, excluding value-added tax (VAT).

The project report submitted to the Valencia City Council states that the stadium will enjoy a capacity of 70,044 seats armed with a fully covered stand. It will also feature a luminous roof and an open façade made up of metal strips and three-dimensional skin.

If the above timelines are met, the new Valencia home ground would position Valencia as a Host City for the 2030 World Cup to be held in Spain along with Morocco and Portugal.

The 2030 FIFA World Cup™ will be the 24th FIFA World Cup™, a quadrennial international football tournament contested by the men’s national teams of the member associations of FIFA. For the first time, three countries from two continents will host the competition with Morocco, Portugal and Spain as the host nations. Additionally, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the FIFA World Cup™, in particular, the first World Cup in Uruguay.
