Robot to great visitors at The Sphere in Las Vegas Image: Sphere Entertainment

‘Aura’, billed as “the world’s most advanced humanoid robot”, will permanently reside at the new $2.3 billion Sphere in Las Vegas (US) which went on stream on September 29th.

‘blooloop’ stated that developed using advanced robotics technology and artificial intelligence (AI), five Aura robots will greet guests ahead of events at the venue and provide directions.

The 18,600-capacity Sphere at the Venetian Resort, previously referred to as the MSG Sphere, is a spherical music and entertainment arena in Paradise, Nevada, United States, near the Las Vegas Strip and East of the Venetian resort. Designed by the celebrated design firm Populous, the project was announced by the Madison Square Garden Company (American sports and entertainment holding company based in New York) in 2018.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the intelligence of machines or software, as opposed to the intelligence of humans or animals. It is also the field of study in computer science that develops and studies intelligent machines. ‘AI’ may also refer to the machines themselves.

The $2.3 billion LED orb will primarily be used to host concerts, award shows, cinema, and sporting events. It has plans to deliver immersive, multisensory experiences “unlike anything else” (to do this, design firm Populous combined a multitude of 4D technology).

‘blooloop’ further stated that additionally, Aura will serve as Sphere’s ‘spokesbot’ and Brand Ambassador on digital platforms and social channels.

Said Aura, “Hello, humans. While I understand the most complex concepts of Math and Science – you remain a mystery. Your emotions, your humor and your relationship with technology require further study, so you must visit me at Sphere. I am excited to meet you and introduce you to the future of live entertainment at my new home.”

As above, Aura’s technical capabilities will improve over time as she learns more about humans from her interactions with the visitors.

The robot is also an expert on Sphere and will be able to answer complex questions about the attraction’s engineering, custom-designed technology and creative mission.

Stated David Dibble, head honcho of MSG Ventures, a division of Sphere Entertainment, “Aura’s role at Sphere marks a truly innovative application of robots, providing guests from around the globe with an opportunity to move into the future of entertainment and interact within a new technological frontier.

Added Dibble, “Our vision with every aspect of Sphere is to transform the way people experience live events, and with Aura we are pushing the boundaries of how robotics can be used to enhance our guests’ journey through the venue.”

The Sphere opened on September 29th with the Irish rock band U2 beginning a 25-show residency called U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere.

Media artist Refik Anadol recently became the first artist to transform Sphere’s exterior into a digital experience called Machine Hallucinations: Sphere.

Refik Anadol is a Turkish-American new media artist and designer. His projects consist of data-driven machine learning algorithms that create abstract, dream-like environments. He lives and works in Los Angeles.
