FC Bayern into the digital future with Unyfy Image: FC Bayern Muenchen

The Bundesliga giants FC Bayern Munich (Germany) are teaming up with the software company Liquiditeam on Web3 infrastructure.

‘FC Bayern München’ stated that the German record champions are pursuing innovative ways to be able to offer fans novel offerings in Web3 infrastructure. To implement the same, FC Bayern will rely on Unyfy, the platform builder of sports organizations.

The FC Bayern Munich, or simply Bayern, is a German professional sports club based in Munich, Bavaria (Germany). It is best known for its professional men’s association football team, which plays in the Bundesliga, the top tier of the German football league system.

The Allianz Arena is a football stadium in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, with a 70,000-seating capacity for international matches and 75,000 for domestic matches. Widely known for its exterior of inflated Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) plastic panels, it is the first stadium in the world with a full color changing exterior.

Liquiditeam builds Web3 fan engagement solutions for the professional sports clubs, athletes and content creators. It specializes in social tokens, fan tokens, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), the creator economy, sports technology, and more. It was founded in 2019 and is based in Braunschweig, Germany.

Braunschweig (Germany)-based Unyfy is a powerful platform builder for sports organizations, publisher and content creators. Following the claim ‘your fans. your platform’, Unyfy lets one create one’s own content and community platform with ease. By combining the best of Web 2.0 and Web3, one can kickstart one’s digital business.

The Web 2.0 describes the current state of the Internet, which has more user-generated content and usability for end-users compared to its earlier incarnation, Web 1.0. Web 2.0 generally refers to the 21st-century Internet applications that have transformed the digital era in the aftermath of the dotcom bubble.

The Web3 is an idea for a new iteration of the World Wide Web which incorporates concepts such as decentralization, blockchain technologies and token-based economics.

A social token is a type of cryptocurrency used to monetize a brand. They can be personal or community tokens. The value of a social token revolves around the brand issuing it, and is used by holders as a way to feel belonging to a certain group.

Fan tokens, as their name indicates, are digital assets that the holder, a fan of a specific sports team, club or player, owns and derives value from. Traditionally, fan engagement with sports teams, players, leagues, and clubs was passive.

A non-fungible token (NFT) is a unique digital identifier that is recorded on a blockchain, and is used to certify ownership and authenticity. It cannot be copied, substituted, or subdivided. The ownership of an NFT is recorded in the blockchain and can be transferred by the owner, allowing NFTs to be sold and traded.

Averred Andreas Jung, FC Bayern Board Member for Marketing, “The FC Bayern firmly believes that fans always come first. We will be treading on uncharted territories in Web3. We want to offer FC Bayern fans the best-of-breed technology and interact with them on a regular basis and make them more skilled digitally.”

‘FC Bayern München’ quoted Hendrik Hoppenworth, Liquiditeam GmbH Managing Director, as asserting that the FC Bayern will raise the bar when it comes to fan engagement, “We are extremely pleased that FC Bayern has chosen Unyfy. FC Bayern has realized that in a cutting-edge digital world, providing fans with attractive digital offerings has become imperative. And Unyfy will make this digital journey of Bayern fans possible and exciting.”
