The Managing Director of the Serie A club Bologna F.C. 1909 Claudio Fenucci, accompanied by the planners, presented to the Mayor of Bologna Matteo Lepore, the Councilor for Sport Roberta Li Calzi, the Councilor for Urban Planning Raffaele Laudani, and the officials of the Municipality of Bologna the final project report of the temporary stadium of the top-flight in which the team will play while their home ground – the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium in Bologna, Italy – undergoes renovation.

‘BOLOGNA FC’ stated that the temporary home of the top-flight will be built in an area owned by the Municipality of Bologna surrounding the Agri-Food Centre of Bologna (CAAB), and the club will be able to take advantage of the existing parking structure.

The objective is to start construction work on the temporary venue in the Summer of 2024 and the arena should be ready by the Summer of 2025. The renovation work of the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium is expected to start in the Summer of 2025 and inauguration of the redone facility is planned for Spring 2027.

The Bologna Football Club 1909, commonly referred to as Bologna, is an Italian professional football club based in Bologna, Emilia-Romagna (Italy) that plays in Serie A, the top of the Italian football league system.

The 38,279-capacity Renato Dall’Ara Stadium is a multipurpose stadium in Bologna, Italy. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home of Bologna F.C. 1909. The stadium was built in 1927.

‘BOLOGNA FC’ further stated that the temporary home of the top-of-the-heap club is expected to boast a capacity of more than 16,000 seats, of which over 2,000 will be covered and the construction costs will be picked up by the company ‘Bologna Stadium spa’ and is pegged at circa 12 million euros. The project plans drawn out envisages the use of the temporary home by the club for two seasons and once Bologna F.C. go back to their renovated home venue, the temporary venue capacity will be reduced to 2,000 seats (with maintenance of the covered grandstand) and will be used for youth football and the women’s team of the top-notch club.

The temporary home will be housed in an area spanning over circa 38,000 square meters and the open areas skirting the facility after the reduction in capacity to 2,000 seats will be approximately 14,000 square meters. The temporary home construction and the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium renovation work will be done simultaneously.

The next step is the final evaluation of the project report of the temporary structure by the Services Conference and a single tender which is likely to be floated by 2023 end or in the beginning of 2024.

If things go as per plan, Bologna will play in the temporary facility for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 seasons. On expiry of the 10-year concession period, the temporary home of the club will become fully available to the Municipal administration and the City for holding outdoor sports and other events.
