Brazil’s Maceió reveals plans for new football stadium

The Brazilian city of Maceió has unveiled plans to build a 30,000-capacity multi-use football stadium integrated with a public park that would be open year-round.

Mayor Rodrigo Cunha said the Parque e Arena dos Corais (Coral Park and Arena) would sit on 372,000 sqm of land on Maceió’s North Coast in Riacho Doce, Brazil.

The Prefeitura de Maceio said the complex will combine sports, leisure, culture, and tourism, and feature infrastructure designed to host major matches, concerts and national and international events.

Maceió has two football teams – Clube de Regatas Brasil (CRB) which plays in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B and Centro Sportivo Alagoano (CSA).

Both clubs currently share the 17,000-capacity Estádio Rei Pelé and could move to the proposed new stadium.

The Corais Park and Arena project envisions a free public park featuring gardens, walking and running paths, a bike lane, and an inclusive playground, among other amenities.

The complex will also include an esplanade for concerts and events, parking facilities, and a multi-purpose stadium with a FIFA-standard pitch.

The stadium will accommodate over 30,000 spectators for matches and up to 40,000 for events, and will feature private boxes, lounges, a kids’ area, a football museum, an auditorium, press and meeting rooms, a coworking space, a gym, restaurants, and exhibition areas.

During the project launch, Mayor Cunha highlighted Maceió’s growth and the need for the capital to keep pace with this new era through infrastructure investments that will improve the population’s quality of life and leisure opportunities.

He said, “This moment marks a milestone for our city. Maceió has evolved, grown, and is developing, and we have a responsibility to match this transformation with infrastructure that befits the city we have today.

“The Coral Park is much more than just an arena. It will be a facility integrated into the city, combining sports, leisure, culture, entertainment, and social interaction, allowing the public to enjoy the space all year round.”

The Mayor also emphasized the potential impact the new venue could have on hosting major events and on the capital’s economy and signed a decree declaring the area designated for the project to be of social interest.

He said, “We are talking about a project that will take Maceió to the next level. The time has come for us to have a facility capable of hosting major national spectacles and, above all, offering Alagoas football and our fanbases a structure worthy of their greatness—with all the comfort, safety, and quality we deserve.

“The proposal will be structured in partnership with the private sector, with planning, responsibility, and transparency. Maceió is ready to take a leap forward, and it is not a distant leap: it is a real, planned one.”

The project is estimated to generate over 5,000 jobs during its implementation phase and around 2,000 during operations.

The initiative involves an initial investment of R$600 million, funded through private sector participation via a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

According to studies conducted by the Municipal Secretariat for Strategic Actions and Partnerships (SAEP), the Parque dos Corais (Coral Park) complex could host approximately 1.5 million people annually and generate around R$200 million in induced economic activity, in addition to a potential R$10 million in municipal tax revenue.

Preliminary study

The figures and projections presented during the ceremony are part of a preliminary feasibility study; they will still undergo technical evaluation regarding technical-operational, environmental, economic-financial, and legal-regulatory modeling.

The planning also includes environmental and urban mobility studies, which will analyze access to the complex, public transport, parking, vehicle traffic, and the special operations required on days of major matches and events.

There is no set deadline for the completion of construction yet. The preliminary schedule anticipates holding the auction at the B3 exchange in the first half of 2027, though specific dates will depend on the progress of studies, public consultations, and the publication of the official tender notice.
