Brest’s Arkéa Park wins public support

A public inquiry into the project to create the new Arkéa Park football stadium for Stade Brestois in Brest, France has overwhelmingly backed the plans.

Brest Metropole & Ville said the public inquiry issued an unreserved favorable opinion on the new stadium project in Guipavas.

Stade Brestois 29, commonly known as Stade Brestois, or simply Brest, is a French professional football club based in Brest, France. It was founded in 1950. The club has competed in Ligue 1, the top division of French football, ever since being promoted to the top flight during the 2018-2019 season.

The club’s new stadium which will be called Arkéa Park will have the same capacity of 15,000 as their current home the Stade Francis-Le Blé in Brest, France.

The public inquiry procedure for the Arkéa Park project attracted a lot of interest, collecting some 2,200 contributions from local citizens.

Led by SAS Holdisports in the Froutven sector of Guipavas, the Arkéa Park project involves the creation of a new football stadium with a capacity of 15,000 seats, four stands, sports areas, and year-round leisure and dining options for the general public.

The public inquiry, which ended in May, saw 35,018 unique visitors consult the register, with 2,234 contributions.

Fabrice Jacob, Mayor of Guipavas, said, “I am delighted with the number of views and contributions to this inquiry.”

The commission concluded that the project is justified and of general interest; The commission issued a favorable opinion on the project, as well as on the request for compatibility with the Brest Métropole Local Urban Plan.

François Cuillandre, President of Brest Métropole, said, “The favorable opinion of the commission of inquiry confirms the relevance and importance of the creation of the new stadium.”

Gérard and Denis Le Saint, the project leaders, expressed their satisfaction: “Six months after the declaration of public interest by the Minister of Sports, the favorable opinion of the commission of inquiry is further confirmation that we are moving in the right direction.”

The report and conclusions of the public commission of inquiry remain available to the public for one year.

In the autumn of 2025, two new steps will be taken. The project declaration and the PLU (Local Urban Planning) compliance will be submitted to the Metropolitan Council for approval; and the project will be subject to a building permit, issued by the Mayor of Guipavas.
 

The new stadium features:

• A 15,000-seat stadium
• 2,000 square meters dedicated to leisure activities and services (crèche, wellness area, etc)
• A gourmet market
• Open 365 days a year
• 8,000 square meters of photovoltaic (PV) panels
• 200 direct jobs created; and
• 18 minutes by tram from Brest City Center
