The French professional football club Stade Brestois confirmed recently that they have received planning permission from the City of Brest to build a new stadium. The stadium which will be called Arkéa Park will have the same capacity of 15,000 as their current home the Stade Francis-Le Blé in Brest, France.

‘yahoo!sports’ stated that the Brest home ground – the Stade Francis-Le Blé in Brest, France – has run into certain issues this season after the club qualified for the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League. Brest has not been allowed to play any of their games at their home ground and have had to play at their local rivals EA Guingamp’s (Ligue 2) team residence – the 19,033-capacity Stade du Roudourou in Guingamp, France.

‘yahoo!sports’ further stated that the decision to construct a new facility comes in the wake of estimations that renovating the existing Stade Francis-Le Blé would require at least €50 million in public funds particularly due to the need for extensive upgrades to meet the current standards.

The top-flight stated that if they had renovated their present home they would have had to reduce capacity from between 25 percent to 40 percent while also the rejig work would have threatened “[the] demolition of private homes and one or two buildings of the Charles de Foucauld School”.

While the club also stressed that the Arkéa Park would not be limited to just 17 Ligue 1 fixtures a year and they would be looking to make it a modern stadium capable of handling events throughout the year.

However, the completion of this modern arena is not expected until 2027 as per the latest projections from the project’s stakeholders. This development represents a significant leap forward for the Stade Brestois enhancing the club’s facilities and promising an exciting future for its fans and the community.
