Sencia, the company that has been awarded the concession contract to develop and operate the new ‘El Campín Cultural and Sports Complex’ in Bogotá, Colombia, has picked up the British firm ERG International Group to spearhead the construction of this megaproject in Colombia which holds great significance for Latin America.

Jaime Luque Ramírez, CEO, Sencia, Colombia, was one of the Speakers at the 2024 Coliseum Summit LATAM held at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Monterrey, Mexico, from November 20th-21st, 2024.

‘BOGOTA’ stated that following the perusal of several proposals Sencia decided to settle for the ERG International Group to helm the engineering, acquisitions and management of the construction of this flagship project in Colombia.

The Brownfield Sport and Cultural Infrastructure Project in Bogotá (Colombia) will be dedicated exclusively to cultural and sports events and entertainment. The site where the project work has got underway is a very central place in Bogotá district with a total area of 167.327 m2. It is also a well-connected place in terms of transportation and the project nucleus is the 39,512-capacity El Campín Stadium in Bogotá which will be able to hold 50,000 spectators once the transfiguration work is over.

The redeveloped El Campín Stadium will be a 50,000-seat venue and will come armed with tech bells and whistles, plush features including a retractable roof, Boxes and VIP experience areas, restaurants, expanded stands, spaces for people with reduced mobility, locker rooms dedicated to the local teams, and additional dressing rooms for the visitors.

London (UK)-based the ERG International Group is an engineering, construction and project management contractor of infrastructure assets. They deliver the full project cycle including development, planning, investment, design and build, and the ongoing operations and maintenance (O&M).

The ERG International Group is one of the leading global infrastructure construction companies with more than 50 years of experience, more than nine thousand employees and presence in more than 40 markets in countries in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Africa, and Latin America.

‘BOGOTA’ further stated that the ERG International Group was selected after an exhaustive sieving of proposals submitted by major international players.

The above project will redefine the essence of entertainment, sports and culture in Bogotá.

Commented Carlos Fernando Galán, Mayor of Bogotá, “The above project will prove to be a game changer for the City of Bogotá and will make it a benchmark City in the region.”

Added George Hodgson, British Ambassador to Colombia, “Bogotá is a world capital and we are pleased to see such strong participation from British companies who can share their illustrious track records and global expertise in delivering this iconic megaproject. Additionally, we are very pleased about the potential involvement of the UK Export Finance (UKEF) in financing the project.”

As part of the development of the Sencia megaproject, the ERG will involve other leading UK companies such as the Mace Group (global consultancy and construction firm), the BDP-Pattern (a global architecture and engineering practice) and the WSP (a leading engineering professional services consulting firm).

London (UK)-based the UK Export Finance (UKEF) is the export credit agency of the Government of United Kingdom. It helps the UK companies win contracts, fulfill orders and get paid for export contracts.

Given the high level of involvement of companies from the United Kingdom in this strategic project for Bogotá and Colombia, the UK Export Finance, the Government agency that provides debt financing for projects incorporating a minimum of 20 percent exportable British content, is considering the feasibility of providing competitive debt financing together with some international banking partners. The UKEF has a significant track record of financing large-scale infrastructure projects around the world.

Exulted Juan Jiménez Pérez, ERG’s Director for Latin America, “We are pleased to participate in this significant Bogotá megaproject. We are confident that ERG’s experience and leadership will hold in good stead this ambitious project and will make the people of Colombia proud.”
