Moroccan Mediterranean city

Morocco’s Tétouan city is poised to get a plush new stadium along the newly built A6 highway. The 40,000 capacity Grand Stade de Tétouan will be built at a cost of $73 million across 36 hectares of land. The stadium will occupy former farmlands and become the central sports arena of the Mediterranean city, replacing the Stade Saniat Rmel.

Designed by young architect Nawfal Bakhat, the Stade de Tétouan boasts of high standards of accessibility – all stands accessible without staircases and 400 special areas for the disabled, which is well above the FIFA requirements.

Bakhat, who won a competition in 2014 to bag the project, has presented an extremely aesthetic design for the stadium. The shape symbolizes a white dove spreading its wings over west, north and south stands. Perforated elements covering the lower parts of its façade are decorative and based on regional craft. Also, the outer shell is visually light thanks to white and partly perforated elevation.

At the same time seating layout with double-tiered west side and lower remaining sides opens the stadium towards the Mediterranean Sea, giving spectators a very dynamic view that will include local mountains and nearby waters.

The stadium will be the home ground for Moghreb Tétouan and is expected to complete by 2018.
