ASM Global appoints groundsman for Kai Tak Sports Park Image: ASM Global

Malcolm Caddies, Grounds Manager at the ASM Global-managed iconic 52,500-capacity Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia, has been announced as General Manager of Sports Turf and Landscape at Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong.

‘ASM Global’ stated that Caddies, renowned for his ability to deliver a first-class pitch for multiple World Cup Tournaments and back-to-back international sporting events, will take up his position at the ASM Global-managed Kai Tak Sports Park, Hong Kong, in October.

The Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP) is a fully integrated sports, leisure and entertainment destination that is expected to be completed in 2023-2024. The 280,000 square meter park will be part of the redevelopment on the site of the old Hong Kong International Airport in Kai Tak. The park features a 50,000-seat main stadium with a retractable roof, an indoor sports arena with the flexibility to host community sports and events of up to 10,000 seats and a public sports ground with a capacity of 5,000 seats. These venues will be complemented with extensive outdoor areas for events and leisure together with retail and harbor front dining spaces.

‘ASM Global’ further stated that Hong Kong’s state-of-the-art multipurpose sports precinct, built on the site of the former Kai Tak Airport in Kowloon, is set for completion in the second half of 2024.

Caddies’ new role at Kai Tak Sports Park will involve leading the operation and management of the sports fields and landscape at the Sports Park, as well as managing an offsite Turf Farm. Initially, he will work with the design-and-build team to oversee and advise on the construction and operation of the playing surfaces in the Main Stadium and Public Sports Grounds.
