The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) Finals.

‘AFRICAN FOOTBALL’ stated that the continental tournament was scheduled to be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from February 1st-28th, 2025, however, the same has been postponed to August 2025 as the facilities are not ready.

Giza (Egypt)-based the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is the administrative and controlling body for association football, beach soccer and futsal in Africa.

The African Nations Championship, known for sponsorship purposes as the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship and commonly abbreviated as CHAN, is a biennial African association football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) since 2009 and first announced in September 2007. The participating teams must consist of players playing in their national league competitions.

‘AFRICAN FOOTBALL’ further stated that the above comes after the CAF Technical and Infrastructure experts some of whom have been based in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda advised the CAF that more time is required to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities are at the levels necessary for hosting a successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (‘CHAN’) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024, according to a CAF statement.

Put in Patrice Motsepe, CAF President, “I would like to express my deep gratitude to the President of Kenya, William Ruto, the President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, and the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, for their leadership, commitment and the good progress that has been made in building and upgrading the stadiums, the training fields, the hotels, the hospitals, and other infrastructure and facilities in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in order to host a successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (‘CHAN’) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024. I am impressed with the ongoing construction and renovations of the football infrastructure and facilities in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. I am confident that the stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other infrastructure and facilities will be at the requisite CAF standards for hosting, in August 2025, a very successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (‘CHAN’) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024.”
