Olympic Stadium in Athens will reopen for concerts Image: OAKA Athens Olympic Complex (Facebook)

None other than the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, wrote in a Facebook post recently that the revamp work of the Athens Olympic Stadium will be over soon which will pave the way for the arena to reopen by the end of March or the middle of April at the latest.

‘GREEK CITY TIMES’ stated that Prime Minister Mitsotakis also wrote in the FB post that the Coldplay concert in Athens (Greece) is scheduled to be held at the Athens Olympic Sports Complex (OAKA) on June 8th and June 9th.

The 69,618-capacity Olympic Stadium of Athens ‘Spyros Louis’ is a sports stadium in Marousi in the North section of Athens, Greece. It is a part of the Athens Olympic Sports Complex (OAKA) and is named after the first modern Olympic marathon gold medalist in 1896, Spyros Louis.

The 75,000-capacity Athens Olympic Sports Complex (OAKA) is a large athletic complex in Athens, Greece. It’s also known as the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens or ‘Spiros Louis’.

As of October 2023, the Athens Olympic Stadium is closed indefinitely due to concerns over the safety of its roof. The stadium’s roof failed safety tests and has rust along the arched structure.

The venue, which can hold nearly 70,000 spectators, is the biggest in Greece after undergoing renovation for the Athens 2004 Olympics and Paralympics, where it hosted the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, athletics and football.

The Coldplay are a British rock band formed in London in 1997. They consist of vocalist and pianist Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, drummer Will Champion, and Manager Phil Harvey.

‘GREEK CITY TIMES’ further stated that as work on the above facility progresses, Mitsotakis, who is a fan of Coldplay, further wrote in the FB post, “Here is some information on the revamp work in progress at the OAKA. Approximately, six percent of the total 5,000 pieces of polycarbonate from the Calatrava Housing have been removed. About 80 pieces are being removed every day, which will be subsequently recycled. Going by the progress of work one can assert that the venue will reopen by the end of March or from mid-April at the latest. Thus, sports and cultural events can be held before or immediately after Easter, including the Coldplay concert, which I must admit I’m eagerly looking forward to!”
