The growing community of East Fremantle (Australia) and those living within the vicinity will benefit from a rehabilitation work to be undertaken for the East Fremantle Oval (football ground), with $20 million committed if the McGowan Labor Government comes back to power in March this year.

East Fremantle Oval (known under a sponsorship agreement as Atom Stadium and nicknamed ‘Shark Park’,) is an Australian rules football ground located in East Fremantle, Western Australia. It presently serves as the home ground of the East Fremantle Football Club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL).

The Town of East Fremantle’s plan is to deliver the $25 million precinct by the end of 2023, providing a community asset for posterity.

The development will see a new avant-garde hub where sports, leisure and recreation thrive together.

At its heart will be the East Fremantle Football Club, together with other clubs including bowls and croquet, and playgroup and child nursing, a health club and a café/restaurant.

The other components include an adventure playground, a community hall, outdoor hard courts, skate park, dog exercise area, a community garden, an amphitheater and a community shed.

The East Fremantle Football Club, nicknamed the ‘Sharks’, is an Australian rules football club playing in the West Australian Football League and WAFL Women’s. The team’s home ground is East Fremantle Oval.

Importantly, the works will also include a number of commercial and support facilities such as allied health tenancies, a function room and Neighbourhood Link Commonwealth Home Support Program facilities.

It is estimated that the precinct’s construction will create 50 full-time jobs and around $75 million worth of output in the wider economy.

Stated Premier Mark McGowan, “This is a fantastic local project that will benefit the wider East Fremantle community in so many ways. My Government, if re-elected, will back the Town of East Fremantle’s plan and make sure this project is delivered.”

Bicton MLA Lisa O’Malley commented, “The East Fremantle community is growing and currently there just aren’t enough spaces and places for people to play sport and recreate. This new precinct will act as a community hub and people will be able to come and meet here, drink coffee together, play some sport and enjoy the space. I am delighted that a re-elected McGowan Labor Government will fund this important redevelopment.”

The growing population of East Fremantle will benefit from the new community hub and key destination for activities and engagement.

The redeveloped facility will maximize the opportunities for the local population to pursue a healthy and active lifestyle.

The West Australian Football League (WAFL) is an Australian rules football league based in Perth, Western Australia. The WAFL is the third-most popular league in the nation, behind the nationwide Australian Football League (AFL) and South Australian National Football League (SANFL).
