The design for the new stadium in Milan has been revealed. Lot of speculations was doing the rounds about a new facility in Milan which when completed would become the new home of AC and Inter. The football teams would then have to leave the iconic Giuseppe Meazza. That has now become a reality with the unveiling of the design.

The two Italian top clubs AC and Inter Milan want a new venue in lieu of Giuseppe Meazza. The new structure would make space for 60,000 spectators and about 1.23 billion euros would be invested which includes the stadium environment.

Barring one draft, a lot of communication has been made about the new stadium. Populous and MANICA has been given the task of designing the arena. The design was presented in a press conference organized by Inter CEO Alessandro Antonello and AC President Paolo Scaroni.

A glass façade has been planned by Populous and they want the stadium to be so designed that it showcases the different Milanese landmarks. The stadium environment was also planned, and tram stations, hotel and a metro would be built in and around the venue. The stadium will be about 30 meters high.

Sustainability will be the underlying factor while building the stadium. Populous termed the stadium as “the most sustainable in Europe” in its design. A photovoltaic system is installed on the roof apart from natural air circulation and rainwater harvesting. It will be an emission-free stadium.

Two rings will be the moot point of MANICA’s stadium design symbolizing both the two clubs and the arena doubling up both as a football ground and event location. Depending on the home team, the façade will be illuminated in blue or red. Faces of fans of the two clubs will be displayed on the façade and it will be made of individual tiles. This is MANICA’s design concept. A 10-hectare garden will form a part of the facility.

In the stadium environment, if MANICA wins the contract, the pitch of the Giuseppe Meazza will receive, so that the history of this stadium is not lost.

Giuseppe Meazza is no longer enough for two big clubs. We have to look to the future, even if we love the San Siro,” said Scaroni at the official presentation.

Renovation of Giuseppe Meazza has been ruled out as conditions do not allow the same. The construction of the new stadium is alone expected to cost 650 million euros. Around 12,500 premium seats would be installed and the construction work would take three years. About 13.8 million euros per season has been calculated for the naming right.
