The LaLiga football club RCD Espanyol de Barcelona (Spain) announced it will accept crypto payments starting next season, in a sponsorship agreement signed with iGaming Token Crypto Snack on May 9th. The deal makes Espanyol Spain’s first club to accept payments in crypto currencies.

The ‘Coin Gape’ stated that launched on the Binance Smart Chain, Crypto Snack is the first iGaming Token that aspires to fight climate change by locking 10 percent of all Crypto Snack tokens in its Green Treasury for projects that help to save the planet.

RCD Espanyol de Barcelona, commonly known as Espanyol, is a professional sports club based in Cornellá, Spain. Founded in 1900, the club plays in LaLiga, the highest division of Spanish football and play their home games at the RCDE Stadium, which holds up to 40,000 spectators.

The 40,000-capacity RCDE Stadium, also known as Estadi Cornellà-El Prat, is an all-seater football stadium on the outskirts of Cornellà de Llobregat and El Prat de Llobregat, in the wider Barcelona urban area in Spain. It took three years to build and cost approximately €60 million and opened on August 2nd, 2009.

The ‘Coin Gape’ further stated that the agreement allows for acceptance of payments in a range of cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum and SNACK in Espanyol’s RCDE Stadium in Barcelona for a period of three years. The deal also includes the featuring of Crypto Snack logo on the club team’s jersey.

Informed Antoni Alegre, the club’s Marketing Director, “We signed an agreement for the remainder of the season and three more years that includes the presence of Crypto Snack in the training shirt and in the first team shorts. We are an enterprising club and we want to be a meeting point for the blockchain sector.”

Mao Ye Wu, the club’s head honcho, informed that they are working towards using cryptocurrencies as a payment method in the stadium next season – “We value all the good that technology brings to the world of football.”

Stuart Morrison, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Crypto Snacks, maintained that Espanyol was the perfect partner – “We are very happy to be here and to sign the first agreement with LaLiga. We want to work and grow together.”

The partnership reflects increasing adoption of cryptocurrency and blockchain applications in the sports industry not just in Europe but across the world. From sports-based non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to fantasy gaming to ticket payments, the usage of crypto continues to expand.

The SNACK token saw a significant jump in its price in the last one week. The price took a 90.1 percent jump over the last week, with a trading volume of $1,922,431.

Crypto Snack, with its headquarters in Barcelona (Spain), is the world’s fastest growing iGaming token and an ideal partner for traditional sports franchises and other businesses. SNACK is listed on several major crypto exchanges, as well as with the largest coin processor in the market, CoinsPaid.
