The National Hockey League (NHL) recently announced that the 2024 NHL Stadium Series will take place on February 17th-18th at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, US.

‘GIANTS NOW’ stated that the event will feature four NHL teams – Philadelphia Flyers, New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, and New York Islanders – in two NHL regular-season outdoor games. On February 17th, the Devils will play host to the Flyers, and on February 18th the Rangers will face off against the Islanders. The event will mark the first time four NHL teams have played outdoor games at the same venue in front of fans.

New York (US)-based the National Hockey League (NHL) is a professional ice hockey league in North America comprising 32 teams – 25 in the United States and seven in Canada. It is considered to be the top-ranked professional ice hockey league in the world, and is one of the four major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada.

The Stadium Series is one of the series of regular season outdoor games played in the National Hockey League (NHL). This event is distinct from the NHL’s other two series of outdoor games, the NHL Winter Classic played on New Year’s Day in a different NHL City every year, and the NHL Heritage Classic.

The 82,500-capacity MetLife Stadium is an open-air multipurpose stadium at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey (US), five miles West of New York City. Opened in 2010 to replace the Giants Stadium, it serves as the home for the New York Giants and New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL).

The Philadelphia Flyers are a professional ice hockey team based in Philadelphia, US. The Flyers compete in the National Hockey League as a member of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference. The 21,000-capacity Wells Fargo Center serves as their home ground.

The New Jersey Devils are a professional ice hockey team based in Newark, New Jersey, US. The Devils compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference. The club was founded as the Kansas City Scouts in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1974. The 16,755-capacity Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, US, serves as their home ground.

The New York Rangers are a professional ice hockey team based in the New York City borough of Manhattan, US. The Rangers compete in the National Hockey League as a member of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference. The 19,500-capacity Madison Square Garden serves as their home facility.

The New York Islanders are a professional ice hockey team based in Elmont, New York, US. The Islanders compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference, and play their home games at the 17,255-capacity UBS Arena.

The NHL Winter Classic is an annual outdoor ice hockey game played during the National Hockey League’s regular season on or around New Year’s Day. It is generally held in a football or baseball stadium in an area with a resident NHL team.

The NHL Heritage Classic is one of the series of regular season outdoor games played in the National Hockey League.

‘GIANTS NOW’ further stated that the event will showcase some of the league’s top talents, including the 2023 NHL All-Stars Jack Hughes (New Jersey Devils), Kevin Hayes (Philadelphia Flyers), Adam Fox, Artemi Panarin and Igor Shesterkin (New York Rangers), Brock Nelson, Bo Horvat, and Ilya Sorokin (New York Islanders).

The National Hockey League All-Star Game is an exhibition ice hockey tournament that is traditionally held during the regular season of the National Hockey League, with many of the league’s star players playing against each other.

All the above four teams are longtime, continuous division rivals, including periods in the Patrick Division (1982-1993), Atlantic Division (1993-2013) and Metropolitan Division (2013-Present).

Additionally, all the four teams have played in regular-season outdoor games. The Flyers have played in five regular-season outdoor games (1-3-1), the Rangers have played in four (4-0-0) and both the Devils (0-1-0) and Islanders (0-1-0) have played in one such game.

This is the first time that New Jersey is hosting this prestigious event and the first NHL Stadium Series to feature games on consecutive days. The MetLife Stadium located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, hosts the world’s biggest events on the world’s biggest stage. The MetLife Stadium will serve as an official match venue and New York/New Jersey an official Host City for the 2026 FIFA World Cup™.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup™ will be the 23rd FIFA World Cup™, the quadrennial international men’s soccer championship contested by the national teams of the member-associations of FIFA. It will be hosted jointly by the United States, Mexico and Canada, and will be held from June 11th, 2026 to July 19th, 2026.
