Futuristic sports mall coming up in Dubai

Sports Society Dubai Mall Image: Viva City

The biggest commercial sports mall in the world will open in Dubai, UAE – Sport Society. Construction work of the sports shopping mall started in 2018 and is scheduled to be completed in 2020.

The retail and leisure space is being developed by Dubai-based real estate developer Viva City. It will be a one-stop shopping destination for sports goods.

The mall will basically focus on the fitness quotient of the people and will help them to lead a healthy lifestyle. It will also contribute to the city’s sports scenario.

The shopping destination is close to the Mirdif City Centre and can be reached through a wider road network. It is almost a stone’s throw away from Dubai International Airport, 15 minutes from Deira, and 20 minutes from both Downtown Dubai and Business Bay. Visitors from Sharjah will also have easy access to the Sport Society mall.

Sport Society will have three stories allocated to retail and entertainment and two floors for basement parking encompassing 800,000ft² of built-up area. It will also feature an active sports roof deck and restaurants where people can indulge in gastronomic delight.

The sports mall will also boast of an on-site daycare and nursery for kids and children. Crème de la crème of the medical professionals will be available in the medical center in the mall focusing on sports medicine and treatments.

Lessons on training goals and nutrition will be imparted in the mall. The other added attractions will include a multipurpose arena with stadium style seating right at the center of the mall.

Forty types of sports, training and adventure activities will be held in the sports destination – football, volleyball, bowling, hockey, golf, basketball and cricket. It will feature an edutainment center, karate dojo, billiards hall, and rock climbing and trampoline gyms.

Another highlight of the sports mall will be a full-size national hockey league (NHL) rink with ice surface cooled to -5°C at floor level to host events such as ice hockey, beach volleyball and obstacle courses. Flagship retail stores will display the best in urban sports clothing and footwear.

The key players involved in the project are Khansaheb Civil Engineering, DLR Group and John R Harris Partners. Cutting-edge technology is being adopted in the design and construction of the one-stop shopping destination.
