Cosenza Calcio new stadium plans presented Image: Cosenza Calcio

The concept of the new San VitoGigi Marulla Stadium in Cosenza, Italy, was presented recently during a presser held in the reception hall of the Palazzo dei Bruzi.

‘ODKANO’ stated that the above project imagines the new facility not only as a structure intended for football matches but also as a driver of urban redevelopment for the entire stretch of the Via degli Stadi area (the location of the Gigi Marulla Stadium).

The San VitoGigi Marulla Stadium is a multipurpose stadium in Cosenza, Italy. The stadium has a capacity to pack in 20,987 spectators. It is currently used mostly for football matches and it is the home ground of the Cosenza Calcio since 1964 which plays in the Serie C.

The Palazzo dei Bruzi is primarily known as the seat of the Cosenza City Council and the Office of the Mayor of Cosenza. It is a civic building and a place of local Government, not a general-purpose public event venue in the typical sense of a theater or museum.

‘ODKANO’ further stated that the objective is to create a modern, functional stadium capable of becoming a point of reference for the City of Cosenza with spaces where events can be held the whole year through.

During the meeting, the different phases of the project were discussed starting from the first intervention which involves the bringing together of the two curves of the San VitoMarulla, financed through the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Economic Planning and Sustainable Development (CIPESS) with an amount of seven (7) million and 200 thousand euros as established by Resolution No. 17 of 2024 as part of the FSC Programming 2021-2027.

The presser was attended by the Mayor of Cosenza Franz Caruso, the Councilor for Public Works Damiano Covelli, the Architect Riccardo Cefarelli of the ‘Gau Arena’ engineering company who drew up the technical-economic feasibility project of the concept, and the Manager of the Municipality’s Infrastructure Sector, Salvatore Modesto.
