Construction begins on Homesteads sports complex Image: USL, Miami FC & City of Homestead

Construction on a $280 million sports complex is underway in Homestead (City in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States).

‘local10.com’ stated that the Sports Performance Hub will be home to a public park, a boarding school geared toward the international athletes and a 10,000-seat arena for the United Soccer League (USL) Championship team Miami FC.

The Miami FC is an American professional soccer team based in Miami, Florida (US) that competes in the USL Championship, the second tier of the American soccer pyramid.

The 20,000-capacity Pitbull Stadium is a college football and soccer stadium on the campus of the Florida International University (FIU) in the unincorporated Miami-Dade County, Florida, US. It serves as the home arena of the Miami FC.

Stated Steven Losner, Homestead Mayor, “A multipurpose arena to house their soccer teams, concerts and a new home for our 77-year-old Homestead Rodeo. You name it, it can happen there.”

‘local10.com’ further stated that no public money is being used. The project is led by the investors and the entrepreneurs including the retired Argentine soccer star Juan Sebastián Verón and the former National Basketball Association (NBA) player Manu Ginobili.

The 92-acre site is near the Homestead Air Reserve Base and construction will take place in two phases.

The first phase will include the park and is expected to be completed in approximately 18 months. The second phase, including the arena, is scheduled to be completed in 2029.
