The English Football League (EFL) Championship team Leicester City Football Club has finalized a Section 106 deal for its planned 8,000-seat East Stand extension to its home pitch – the King Power Stadium in Leicester, England (UK).

‘Construction Enquirer’ stated that the hybrid planning application also includes outline planning for a fan zone, an event and entertainment arena, a 220-room hotel, and a residential tower.

Preston (UK)-based the English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, it is the oldest football league in the world.

The English Football League Championship, known simply as the Championship in England and for sponsorship purposes as the Sky Bet Championship, is the highest division of the English Football League (EFL) and the second-highest overall in the English football league system, after the Premier League, and is currently contested by 24 clubs.

The Leicester City Football Club is an English professional football club based in Leicester, in the East Midlands of England (UK). They compete in the EFL Championship, the second level of the English football league system. The club was founded in 1884 as the Leicester Fosse F.C., and they adopted the name Leicester City in 1919.

The 32,261-capacity King Power Stadium is a football stadium located in Leicester, in the East Midlands of England (UK). It has been the home of the EFL Championship club Leicester City F.C. since 2002 and was the stage as the club famously lifted the Premier League title in 2016.

‘Construction Enquirer’ further stated that this wider master plan is critical to the viability of the overall project and the club said more work had to be done to finalize these elements before sanctioning works to start.

The club said approval of outline planning gave it the opportunity to reassess its detailed proposals in light of the market dynamics which have changed significantly since the club’s proposals were initially submitted in October 2021.

A Leicester City spokesperson said, “The club’s acquisition of further adjacent land since the planning application was first submitted can now also be factored into our vision for the overall site, and presents a further opportunity to strengthen the club’s overall commercial proposition. It will be the responsibility of the club’s leadership to ensure that the final detailed plans for a project of such longevity deliver optimal value, particularly given the scale of investment which will be required from the club and its owners to bring it to fruition. The club looks forward to advancing those detailed proposals, while continuing to monitor associated market conditions, which will enable us to plan an appropriate timeline for the development work to commence.”
