The Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Construction announced on August 14th that its buildings and factories (B&F) business has secured significant orders in the range of Rs 1,000 to 2,500 crore in India and Bangladesh.

‘Business Standard’ stated that the B&F Business has secured an order from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA – governing body for the cricket activities in the Indian State of Uttar Pradesh and the Uttar Pradesh cricket team) for the “construction of a cricket stadium at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh (India)” on a design-and-build turnkey basis.

The Larsen & Toubro Limited, commonly known as L&T, is an Indian multinational conglomerate company, with business interests in engineering, construction, manufacturing, technology, information technology (IT), and financial services, headquartered in Mumbai. The company is counted among the world’s top five construction companies.

The L&T Construction’s Buildings & Factories is a business vertical that is equipped with the domain knowledge, requisite expertise and wide-ranging experience to undertake Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of all types of building and factory structures through its dedicated Business Units.

A turnkey design-and-build concept allows the space to be able to be moved into immediately upon the completion of construction, without any additional changes being made to the building. This is often used in commercial buildings, when the building is being created with a specific type of tenant in mind.

‘Business Standard’ further stated that the above stadium, to spread over 30.67 acres, will be able to hold 30,000 spectators. The scope includes the main ground according to the International Cricket Council (ICC) standards, display scoreboard, floodlights, corporate boxes, VIP lounges, office areas, broadcasting, Press conference areas, kitchen and dining areas, and a practice ground.

Dubai (UAE)-based the International Cricket Council (ICC) is the global governing body of cricket. It was founded as the Imperial Cricket Conference in 1909 by representatives from Australia, England and South Africa. It was renamed as the International Cricket Conference in 1965, and took up its current name in 1987.

The B&F Business has secured another order from the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority to construct hi-tech IT parks across districts of Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Cumilla, and Sylhet in Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority is a Government agency in Bangladesh dedicated to establish, manage and operate technology business parks throughout the country.

The project is funded by the EXIM Bank.

Mumbai (India)-based The EXIM Bank or Export-Import Bank of India is India’s leading export financing institute that engages in integrating foreign trade and investment with the country’s economic growth. Founded in 1982 by the Government of India, the EXIM Bank is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Indian Government.

The project’s major scope of work includes constructing seven-storied structural steel buildings at eight locations with BUA of 1.2 million sq ft including civil, finishes, façade, and electromechanical works with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold rating.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a Green building certification program used worldwide. Developed by the nonprofit U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), it includes a set of rating systems for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of Green buildings, homes and neighborhoods, which aims to help building owners and operators be environmentally responsible and use resources efficiently.

The more points a building earns, the higher the certification level achieved. The four levels of LEED certification are: Certified: 40-49 points earned. Silver Certification: 50-59 points earned. Gold Certification: 60-79 points earned.

Washington, D.C., (US)-based the U.S. Green Building Council, co-founded by Mike Italiano, David Gottfried and Rick Fedrizzi in 1993, is a private 5013, membership-based nonprofit organization that promotes sustainability in building design, construction and operation.

The scope also includes heating, ventilation and air conditioning, lift, electrical, fire fighting system, public health engineering, networking and security system, building management system, site development, road, boundary wall, landscaping, and arboriculture.
