MatSing, the pioneer and innovator of high-capacity lens antennas, recently announced that its latest deployment delivering improved connectivity at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina (US) was ready for the puck to drop at the National Hockey League (NHL) team Carolina Hurricanes’ home opener (held on October 11th).

The Carolina Hurricanes hosted their peer team Ottawa Senators (Canada) at the PNC Arena on October 11th, 2023 to start the 2023-2024 regular seasons. The Hurricanes won the game 5-3.

‘businesswire’ stated that in advance of the regular NHL season (which started on October 10th, 2023, and will end on April 18th, 2024), 12 of MatSing’s spherical lens antennas (eight MS-4.2DB60-T antennas and four MS-SB34-T antennas) have been installed at the PNC Arena, providing low-band and mid-band connectivity in the entire venue.

Founded in 2005, California (US)-based MatSing is a company that has developed and patented new metamaterials to create the world’s first lightweight and multibeam lens antennas. This new approach for high-performance, high-capacity antenna design is more efficient and offers key advantages over the traditional antennas, the ability to provide broadband coverage, emit and maintain multiple beams and to do so cleanly with minimal radio frequency (RF) interference. Nationwide coverage isn’t the only critical challenge facing telecom companies, and MatSing’s lens antenna solution is ideal to meet the capacity demands at outdoor events, stadiums and macro uses in Cities, suburbs, and the rural areas. Each antenna can provide multiple independent sectors, up to 48, providing the highest capacity across multiple bands with the fewest antennas possible. The MatSing lens technology is the perfect fit for 4G LTE and 5G mobile broadband coverage, and it is the most cost-effective network densification tool in the industry.

New York (US)-based the National Hockey League (NHL) is a professional ice hockey league in North America comprising 32 teams – 25 in the United States and 7 in Canada. The Stanley Cup, the oldest professional sports trophy in North America, is awarded annually to the league playoff champion at the end of each season.

The 20,000-capacity PNC Arena is an indoor arena located in Raleigh, North Carolina (US). The arena seats 18,680 for ice hockey and 19,500 for basketball, including 61 suites, 13 luxury boxes and 2,000 club seats. The building has three concourses and a 300-seat restaurant. It is home to the Carolina Hurricanes of the NHL.

The Carolina Hurricanes are a professional ice hockey team based in Raleigh, North Carolina (US). They compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as part of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference, and play their home games at the PNC Arena.

‘businesswire’ further stated that the network, covering the stands and the floor, will ensure the capacity audience of 18,680 receives high-quality 5G signals from their carriers during games. Music fans, enjoying the performance on the floor, will get the same advanced 5G service from their carriers that others receive in the stands.

Explained Bo Larsson, head honcho of MatSing, “Social media activity, fantasy updates and live-video feed have become essential components of any gameday experience. And as new technologies and apps tailored for the venues and the fans are introduced, the need for high-capacity and fast-speed connectivity increases exponentially year-over-year. MatSing’s lens antenna technology is known to exceed connectivity expectations by providing industry- leading network performance, as evidenced by our presence in 50 percent of the National Football League (NFL) stadiums and 35 percent of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and NHL arenas combined. We are thankful to all the parties involved in the network design and build at the PNC Arena. Kudos to our partner Beam Wireless who selected our antennas for the venue and successfully integrated our technology into the arena’s mobile network.”

Greenville (US)-based Beam Wireless is a telecommunications company that provides services and solutions for wireless cellular projects.

MatSing leverages patented light-weight metamaterials and unique design to distinguish its high-performance lens multibeam antennas. Delivering high sectorization without signal interference, a fewer number of antenna locations are typically required to deliver venuewide connectivity. MatSing works with carriers, neutral-host operators, infrastructure providers, and venues to deliver upwards of 200 sectors indoors, ensuring the highest capacity connectivity in the industry.
