Miami International Autodrome on ‘track’

Organizers of Formula 1’s Miami Grand Prix (US) say their venue is nearing completion ahead of the inaugural event in early May.

The ‘Motorsport Week’ stated that Miami’s Formula 1 round has been several years in the making but the Miami International Autodrome will hold the fifth event of 2022 on May 8^th.

Formula One is the highest class of international racing for open-wheel single-seater formula racing cars sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile.

The Miami Grand Prix is a planned Formula One Grand Prix due to form part of the 2022 Formula One World Championship, with the event taking place at the Miami International Autodrome on a 10-year contract.

The Miami International Autodrome is a planned purpose-built temporary circuit around the 65,326-capacity Hard Rock Stadium and its private facilities in the Miami suburb of Miami Gardens, Florida, US. The track is due to be 3.36 mi long and feature 19 corners with an anticipated average speed of around 139 mph.

The MIA is located on street-style roads on the campus that is dominated by the Hard Rock Stadium.

The ‘Motorsport Week’ further stated that the circuit itself, and the laying of the tarmac, have been completed, with residual work ongoing to put the finishing touches to permanent buildings and temporary elements such as safety barriers and kerb painting.

Said Miami GP Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard Cregan, “We’re in the final stages of this incredible circuit that will host the first-ever Formula 1 race in Miami. We are delighted with the progress we have made and it’s a huge credit to the hard work of the team here in Miami, in consultation with both Formula 1 and the FIA to get this circuit finished in a tight timeline. We have tried to create a track that drivers love to race on and a campus that offers unique, best-in-class fan experiences, and we can’t wait for the first weekend in May.”

Added Cregan, “In my experience of working with new venues over the years, I’ve never seen as much effort on perfecting the surface of the track as we have done in Miami. Everything was exactly per the design, and everyone involved in construction has done an incredible job.”
