The Major League Soccer’s (MLS’s) total attendance for the 2024 regular season and the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs ranks second in the world among all soccer leagues.

‘mlssoccer.com’ stated that with over 12.1 million fans having attended an MLS match this season the MLS trailed only the English Premier League in total attendance globally through the 2024 Conference Finals.

New York (US)-based Major League Soccer (MLS) is a men’s professional soccer league sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation which represents the sport’s highest level in the United States. It comprises 30 teams with 27 in the United States and 3 in Canada. The MLS is one of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. The league is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan.

The 2024 MLS Cup playoffs (branded as the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs for sponsorship reasons) was the post-season championship of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top soccer league in the United States and Canada. It was the 29th edition of the MLS Cup playoffs, the tournament culminating at the end of the 2024 season. The playoffs began on October 22nd and concluded with the MLS Cup 2024 on December 7th.

London (UK)-based the Premier League is a professional association football league in England and the highest level of the English football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the English Football League (EFL). Seasons usually run from August to May with each team playing 38 matches: Two against each other team, one home and one away. Most games are played on weekend afternoons with occasional weekday evening fixtures.
 

‘mlssoccer.com’ further stated that attendance milestones for the MLS in 2024 include:

  • 70,000+: Two matches surpassed 70,000 fans;
  • 60,000+: Eight matches had an attendance of 60,000, or higher, including Game 2 of the Round One Best-of-3 Series between the MLS teams Atlanta United FC and the Inter Miami CF;
  • 50,000+: Ten matches exceeded 50,000 fans; and
  • 40,000+: Thirty-one matches have seen at least 40,000 fans.
