The LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games have chosen more than a dozen extra venues to host Olympic sports.

LA28 said the new facilities are extraordinary sports venues and locations in the City of Los Angeles and neighboring cities of Carson and Long Beach.

Badminton will be played at the USC Sports Center, a top-quality indoor arena that is the home of the University of Southern California’s (USC) basketball and volleyball teams.

The Convention Center in Downtown Los Angeles, which was used at the 1984 Games as the Main Press Center, will host five Olympic sports in 2028, providing fans with an extraordinary opportunity to see multiple sports in the same building.

The Convention Center will host the Olympic sports of Fencing, Judo, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, and Wrestling.

Across the street, the Theater in Downtown Los Angeles will host the Weightlifting competition.

Across town, Golf will be played at The Riviera Country Club in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles. Considered one of the top golf courses in the nation, Riviera will host competitions for the world’s top women and men golfers at the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028.

The course also hosts Los Angeles’ annual PGA TOUR event, and has previously hosted the US Open, PGA Championship, US Amateur, US Senior Open and the NCAA Championships.

In the City of Carson, the world-class athletic complex that is the home to the LA Galaxy Major League Soccer team will host the sports of Cycling – Track in the Velodrome, Hockey at the Fields adjacent to the Stadium, Rugby Sevens in the Stadium, and Tennis in the Tennis Center.

The Velodrome is an Official U.S. Olympic Training Site and serves as the home track for USA Cycling’s national track and cycling program.

The Fields, currently used as training grounds for the LA Galaxy, will be transformed into a world-class temporary Hockey venue.

The Tennis Center is home to the U.S. Tennis Association’s (USTA) High-Performance Training Center and has hosted various professional Women’s Tennis championships and tournaments.

Additionally, the stadium that hosts Rugby Sevens regularly hosts the World Rugby Sevens Series for the sport’s international federation.

Carson’s velodrome previously hosted Cycling – Track at the Olympic Games Los Angeles 1984, which has since been refurbished.

In the City of Long Beach, the Arena will host Handball, Marine Stadium will host Canoe-Sprint and Rowing competitions, Sailing will be held in the water along the Belmont Shore, Marathon Swimming and Triathlon competitions will be held at the Waterfront along Alamitos Beach, and Water Polo will be held in a temporary aquatics center at the Convention Center lot, in addition to Artistic Swimming which was previously announced.

The relocation of Rowing and Canoe Sprint from Lake Perris in Riverside County to Marine Stadium, which involved exceptional arrangements supported by the World Rowing Congress and specific for the LA28 Games, will place the athletes of these sports at the heart of the Long Beach sport cluster, enhancing the experience for both athletes and spectators.

Long Beach previously hosted Archery, Fencing, Sailing and Volleyball at the 1984 Games, and Long Beach’s Marine Stadium hosted Rowing at the 1932 Games.

LA28 Chief Athlete Officer Janet Evans said, “The 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games will reflect all that the Los Angeles area has to offer, and with these venue assignments, we’re very proud to bring the Games to many of our vibrant and diverse communities.

“The City of Los Angeles will host more Olympic sports than anywhere else, and Carson and Long Beach, which hosted competitions in previous Games, will host more competitions than ever before. The venues in these cities are world-class, and provide the ideal conditions for athletes and fans, and we look forward to welcoming them in 2028.”

In the months ahead, LA28 will announce additional venue assignments in the City of Los Angeles and elsewhere, including new sports that were added since LA28’s original 2017 Bid Plan.
