Gilbane to be construction manager for new M&T Stadium Image: Gensler and Baltimore Ravens

The Gilbane Building Company has been selected by the Maryland Stadium Authority (MSA) to provide extensive renovations to the M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland (US), which will modernize the 25-year-old stadium.

‘Gilbane Building Company’ stated that the plans include a series of significant projects that, beginning in 2024, will enhance the gameday and year-round fan experience.

The Gilbane Building Company is an American privately-held construction and facility management company founded in 1870, with its headquarters in Providence, Rhode Island (US) and more than 45 office locations in the United States and abroad.

Gilbane provides a full slate of construction and facilities-related services – from pre-construction planning and integrated consulting capabilities to comprehensive construction management, general contracting, design-build and facility management services – for clients across various markets. Founded in 1870 and still a privately held, family-owned company, Gilbane has more than 45 office locations worldwide.

Located just minutes away from the M&T Bank Stadium, Gilbane’s Baltimore office has been building Maryland for nearly 50 years. Having completed iconic area projects for clients such as McCormick, Johns Hopkins and the Morgan State University, its Baltimore office recently completed a 485,000 SF overhaul of the University of Maryland’s Cole Field House (now known as the 14,596-capacity Jones-Hill House). Gilbane’s projects have touched every corner of the State, from rural Western and Southern Maryland to the edge of the Eastern shore.

Baltimore (US)-based the Maryland Stadium Authority (MSA) was established by the General Assembly in 1986. The original mission was to build, manage and maintain quality facilities to retain Major League Baseball (MLB), and return the National Football League (NFL) to Maryland. For 35 years, the MSA has completed projects in partnership with the local Governments, universities and the private sector throughout Maryland. These include convention centers, museums, theaters, parks, and campus centers in addition to sports arenas. They have been completed on time, on budget. The MSA is committed to enhancing the Maryland experience for those who live, work and visit the State.

The 71,008-capacity M&T Bank Stadium is a multipurpose football stadium located in Baltimore, Maryland (US). It is the home of the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). The stadium is immediately adjacent to the Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the home of the Baltimore Orioles of MLB.

Enthused Ted Holt, Senior Vice-President and Maryland Business Leader, Gilbane Building Company, “Gilbane is incredibly excited to continue our partnership with the Baltimore Ravens and the Maryland Stadium Authority on this tremendous project. We look forward to delivering the multiphase renovation that will transform the fans’ experience at the M&T Bank Stadium and make Maryland proud. Our focus is on a strong collaboration with the stadium operations, design firm Gensler and our trade partners with a commitment to driving economic inclusion throughout construction.”

‘Gilbane Building Company’ further stated that demonstrating their commitment to the Baltimore City and the State of Maryland, the Ravens’ three-year (2024-2026) stadium upgrades plan will further create an exceptional experience for all fans and ensure that the M&T Bank Stadium remains a world-class NFL and entertainment venue well into the future.

The stadium enhancements will provide opportunities for the fans to enjoy new experiences on gameday, while also enriching elements that are currently enjoyed. In addition to substantial developments on the exterior plaza areas, every level of the venue will undergo renovations – thus completely transforming the stadium experience for all.

Gilbane has partnered with the Maryland Stadium Authority for over 30 years on projects throughout Baltimore City and the State of Maryland including the Baltimore Convention Center, the University of Maryland 17,950-capacity XFINITY Center and the recent move of the left field wall at the 45,971-capacity Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Between 2017-2019, Gilbane performed tenant improvements for the Ravens ranging from two 4K ultra-high-definition video displays, ribbon boards, four new corner suites and video displays, improvements to fan circulation with new escalators and elevators, and club level improvements. Gilbane has also closely collaborated with Gensler, the project architect, on over 165 projects nationwide.

Working with the Maryland Stadium Authority, Gilbane will focus on leveraging the renovations as an economic driver for the City of Baltimore. Gilbane is partnering with the Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) Corenic Construction and is committed to meeting the State’s MBE participation goal for the project.

Corenic is a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) based in Washington, D.C. (US) and licensed in Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Maryland. The company specializes in a variety of construction projects ranging from design, engineering, construction, project management, and planning.

Featuring both in-season and off-season work, all phases of renovation are anticipated to be completed by the start of the 2026 season.
