Spanish Segunda División football club Real Valladolid is investing heavily in the first phase of its José Zorrilla Stadium renovations.

Palco23 said the club will make an initial investment of €11.8 million to modernize the stadium. Work is already underway with the first studies following approval from the City Council.

Valladolid City Council’s Governing Board has granted the building permit for the construction of two new communications hubs attached to the north and west facades of the stadium.

This phase of the José Zorrilla Stadium renovations project will cover a total of 6,986 square meters of built area and marks the official start of a transformation process that the club has been preparing for some time.

Planned investment for this first phase are €11.8 million and are structured around two main projects.

Firstly, the installation of mechanical lifts to improve accessibility for fans with reduced mobility, especially on the third tier of the North Stand’s VIP boxes.

Secondly, the construction of a new 1,000-square-meter building at the training grounds, intended for the first team’s daily operations.

This building will include a high-performance gym, rooms for physiotherapists and nutritionists, medical facilities, and offices for the youth teams.

Real Valladolid is a Spanish professional football club based in Valladolid, Castile and León (Spain). The club competes in the Segunda División, the second tier of Spanish professional football.

The 27,618-capacity José Zorrilla Stadium is a Municipality-owned football stadium in Valladolid, Spain. It is the 22nd-largest stadium in Spain and the largest in Castile and León (autonomous community in Spain).

The first phase of José Zorrilla Stadium renovations, already approved by the City Council, represents an investment of €11.8 million.

The funding for these works comes from the CVC Funds that LaLiga distributes to clubs for infrastructure improvements.

Real Valladolid frames this investment within its objective of bringing the José Zorrilla stadium closer to UEFA Level 4 certification, the highest level of infrastructure, safety, and comfort required.

This qualifies stadiums to host Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, and European Championship finals.

Beyond accessibility, the project envisions a significant renovation of the fan experience.

Hospitality areas will be expanded into the space currently occupied by the press boxes in the west stand, access turnstiles will be modernized, and the on-site food and beverage options will be improved. The club also plans to build new public restrooms.

All of this reflects a vision that extends beyond match days, with the intention of transforming the Zorrilla into a hub for business, cultural, and social events that generate additional revenue.
