The planned concert arena near Munich Airport (Germany) – the ‘Munich Arena’ – with a capacity to hold around 20,000 people – has cleared a major hurdle – obtaining the requisite planning permission. The facility is scheduled to open in 2029.

However, a spokesperson for the project developer SWMunich Real Estate GmbH stated that the starting date for the construction of the ‘Munich Arena’ in Munich has not yet been decided as several project-related relevant work is still to be completed and will take time.

‘Milestone Moment’

‘Abendzeitung’ stated that the City Council in Freising (town in Germany), where the concert arena is to be built, has obtained the necessary planning permission for the construction of the concert arena near the Munich airport with two amendments as announced by the city and the project developer SWMunich Real Estate GmbH.

The Managing Director (MD) of SWMunich Real Estate GmbH, Lorenz Schmid, has described the obtaining of the planning permission as a ‘milestone moment’. The Municipal planning process had taken approximately four years.

The SWMunich Real Estate GmbH is a German real estate development company based in Freising, near Munich (Germany).

‘Munich Arena’

‘Abendzeitung’ further stated that the ‘Munich Arena’ will be built in cooperation with the concert promoter Live Nation – and is therefore primarily designed for the concerts and the major music acts.

Each space of the venue will be consistently designed to provide the best possible concert experience. This includes high-quality acoustics, clear sightlines to the stage and proper production conditions for the promoters.

Beverly Hills (US)-based Live Nation Entertainment, Inc. is an American multinational entertainment company that was founded in 2010 following the merger of Live Nation and Ticketmaster. It continues to operate both the brands as subsidiary companies promoting and managing ticket sales for live entertainment internationally. It also owns and operates the entertainment venues and the festivals and manages the careers of the music artistes.

Diamond-shaped Struts

The multipurpose hall, with its diamond-shaped struts, will be an eye-catcher on the Munich Airport access road and the concert arena will be accessible by car and S-Bahn (a suburban and rapid-transit railway system in Germany). The concert arena is also being planned as a possible venue in Munich’s bid for the Olympic and the Paralympic Summer Games and will be built in such a manner that it meets the benchmarks to host the swimming competitions.

‘Ray of Hope’

Maintained Monika Schwind (Freisinger Mitte), Mayor of Freising, “The concert arena near the Munich Airport can become an important cultural and economic boost for our city and the region. Especially during times of economic uncertainty the world over such projects come as a ray of hope and should be carefully planned, maintain transparency and responsibly implemented.”
