Murrayfield Experience appoint exec chef

Chef Stuart Fraser has been picked as executive chef at the Murrayfield Experience, a joint venture between contract caterer Elior UK and Scottish Rugby.

Fraser will oversee the catering and events offering at the Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.

The Caterer said Fraser has worked in the industry for the past 30 years, starting out as a kitchen porter.

He has held senior banqueting chef and executive head chef roles at the Old Course hotel in St Andrews, as well as head chef positions at Genting Casinos and Lindisfarne hotels.

In his new role, Fraser will work across rugby matches, concerts, corporate, private and charity events curating dining experiences as well as tailored signature ‘Murrayfield dishes’.

Seasonal, locally sourced ingredients and food provenance will be at the heart of Fraser’s strategy.

The Murrayfield Experience enables Scottish Gas Murrayfield stadium to offer a wider range of tailored services for events of all sizes whilst positioning the the iconic venue as a year-round destination for concerts, entertainment and private functions away from match days.

Murrayfield Stadium (known as the Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium for sponsorship reasons, or popularly as Murrayfield) is a rugby stadium located in the Murrayfield area of Edinburgh, Scotland (UK). It has a seating capacity of 67,144 making it the largest stadium in Scotland and the fifth largest in the United Kingdom.

The stadium in its current guise was completed 30 years ago, making it the second oldest Six Nations venue – behind only the Stadio Olimpico in Rome which was renovated for the 1990 World Cup.

At Murrayfield, Fraser will lead a team of up to 100 chefs on match days and concerts and elevate the culinary offering at the venue.

Fraser said: “Scottish Gas Murrayfield is iconic and known worldwide, and I’m excited to lead the culinary offering into a new chapter, creating bespoke event menus with a focus on working with local Scottish providers.

“We have many exciting new opportunities lined up for guests to experience the great warm welcome, food and hospitality that the Murrayfield Experience has to offer.”
