With a month to go before Super Bowl LVI kicks off in Los Angeles (US), the National Football League (NFL) officials said on January 13th that the game will be played before a full house at the spectacular SoFi Stadium despite the United States being clobbered by the highly- mutated Omicron strain.

The ‘Reuters’ stated that fans who attend the game at the new 70,240-seat venue in Inglewood, California, on February 13th will be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative test and wear masks when not eating or drinking, but no capacity limit will be set.

Super Bowl LVI will be the 56th Super Bowl and the 52nd modern-era National Football League (NFL) championship. It is the final game of the 2021 season and the culmination of the 2021-2022 NFL playoffs. The game is scheduled to be played on February 13th, 2022, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California (US).

The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league consisting of 32 teams, divided equally between the National Football Conference and the American Football Conference.

The National Football League (NFL) playoffs are a single-elimination tournament held after the regular season to determine the NFL champion.

The SoFi Stadium is a sports and entertainment complex in Inglewood, California, United States. It occupies the former site of the Hollywood Park Racetrack, 3 miles from the Los Angeles International Airport and immediately Southeast of the 17,500-capacity The Forum indoor arena.

Katie Keenan, the NFL’s Senior Director of Event Operations, said at an event marking 30 days until kickoff, “We hosted the Super Bowl last year in Tampa (Florida, US) to limited capacity, so to cap off this amazing season with a full-capacity Super Bowl here at this unbelievable stadium, we couldn’t be more excited.”

The ‘Reuters’ further stated that Keenan shot down rumors that the game might be moved elsewhere in light of the spread of the highly-contagious Omicron variant. California nears 5 million coronavirus cases as Omicron becomes dominant.

She added, “I can categorically say that none of that is true. It’s all part of our normal contingency planning.”

The game will follow LA County COVID-19 regulations so fans in attendance can focus on enjoying themselves.

Keenan continued, “At the end of the day, it’s a party, and it will be an amazing day in an amazing facility.”

NFL team Los Angeles Rams Chief Operating Officer (COO) Kevin Demoff said that while the Super Bowl will not mark the end of the pandemic, it will be part of the City’s journey out of it – “For a long time we talked about this being the first post-pandemic event. That might not hold true anymore as we fight this latest variant, but truly this is about getting people back and making people feel safe. I’m excited that we can be trailblazers in hosting these great events and doing them safely as hopefully we get toward the next stage of the COVID pandemic.”

And since it is Hollywood, the stars of entertainment will be out in full force, starting with a halftime show that will feature LA rappers Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar, as well as American rapper Eminem and R&B singer Mary J. Blige.

Said Adam Burke, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board, “One of the things we’ve been asked is what are we doing to get red carpet ready for the Super Bowl and the answer is, we’re always red carpet ready. If you look at the annual awards shows, all the iconic sporting events, you know that we live to put on these types of world class events.”
