Nod to Austria top-flight club new home plans

The Austrian Football Bundesliga team SC Austria Lustenau received an early Christmas gift on November 29^th. The association and the Municipality of Lustenau (Austria) got the legally binding building permit from the Vorarlberg State Administrative Court. With this, the stage is all set for work to start on the SC Austria new home venue.

‘Austria Lustenau’ quoted head honcho Bernd Bösch as stating, “We had to wait a long time, but finally it has happened. With the legally binding building permit nod for the new home stadium of the top-flight, the construction process can now begin. We are exhilarated over the above decision. Several rounds of negotiations were held before arriving at the said decision.”

Construction is scheduled to start in November 2023 and the price tag to build the new arena stands at €18m (£15.4m/$18.9m). The new digs of SC Austria Lustenau will boast a total capacity of 5,500, with 3,500 seats. The venue will be owned by the town of Lustenau.

The Sportclub Austria Lustenau is a professional association football club based in the town of Lustenau, Vorarlberg, Austria, that competes in the Austrian Football Bundesliga, the top tier of the Austrian football league system. Founded in 1914, it is affiliated to the Vorarlberg Football Association.

The Planet Pure Stadion is a multiuse stadium in Lustenau, Austria, built in 1951. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of SC Austria Lustenau. The stadium holds 8,800 people.

The new stadium will replace the Planet Pure Stadion which does not measure up to the criteria laid down by the top-tier Bundesliga league to which the said club was promoted last season thus ending a 22-year drought.

‘Austria Lustenau’ further stated that the entire exercise to start construction on the new venue of the top gun was a feet-dragging affair during the whole of last year, as the residents had turned their nose up over the whole development. A few weeks back, a neighboring family withdrew their objection over giving thumbs-up to the building permit. Following this, further complaints from residents against the building permit were dismissed as “unjustified” by the Vorarlberg State Administrative Court.

Added Bösch, “Finally, we have the legal underpinning and we can proceed to build the new home of SC Austria Lustenau.”

The next steps in the construction exercise are the floating of tenders. The tender notices will be issued in 2023 beginning for the first phase of construction and will be floated in tandem by the planning team led by Bernardo Bader and those who represent the community and the clubs. The execution plans of the experts will be used as the basis for the tenders.

Apart from the tenders, few organizational issues are also being sorted out such as the flow of spectators into the stadium (e.g., access to the guest sector).

Concluded Bösch, “With the go-ahead to build the new facility, we are now tackling the next tasks together with the municipal authorities. 2023 will be an exciting year.”
